I actually own a 5 trillion dollar bank note from Zimbabwe. If their currency ever rises from the ashes, I will never need to work again.

The Greens are the enemy within. Perhaps they started off okay, but now they are a cancer on the nation.

I guess he's annoyed that the government is not merely creating more credit to pay off the government debt, like they did in Zim and Germany Pre WW2. That would be hyperinflationary, but he won't mind as we will all be millionaires or gazzillionaires in no time. The Greens party are great for keeping the excitement levels up as the drinks come to an end at any party, and the sobriety begins. But you would never want them near the punch bowl spiking the Kool-aid, they would likely confuse Methylated spirits with Ethanol and kill us all.

You have to love it when the people saying "Vote for me...let me run this country" reveal how little they know about actually running a country. Thanks for the heads up Adam (not that I was ever going to vote for you anyway!).

I only just managed to buy my first house (at 49 years old), just before interest rates left on their mission to the moon, so I don't think any changes for rental property owners is going to make much difference to me anytime soon. The most significant cost increase I have noticed over the last 5 or so years, has been insurance. Vehicle, house, business...everything that is insured is costing far more...about 25-30% more just in the last 2 years! Insurance is a business essential, that is fast making business non-viable. I have seen insurance costs jump from around $4k per year to around $25k per year...where is that supposed to come from??

Mostly from the greed of shareholders and insurance fraud.

It is interesting reading the comments and what owners of rentals are saying. I was speaking yewsterday with a friend who owned a Real estate business and has now sold and retired, I worked for her for some time back in 2002-4 when there was a boom in Gladstone. Gladstone has always been a boom or bust town and at that stage it was a boom and I absolutely hated working in rentals because the increases were making it so hard for people to feed their families. I felt like I was taking clothes and food from children. We had a business which we sold in 2000 and had a unit as well (not a rental). I clearly heeard the words -sell what you have, give to the poor and follow Me - That was when we sold our business. We bought a yacht and went in to boat ministry to the remote islands of Papua New Guinea where they could only be reached by boat - This we did for 12 years, coming back to Australia, working to get the money for the next year, which is why I did Real Estate. We stopped going over as we aged and n longer had a yacht suitable for the journey, we found ourselves renting. This was in a bust time, so the rents were low, like $190 per week for a lovely 3 bedroom house, this is now 2017/18 until 2020 after lockdowns. Suddenly our rent was going up in $50 increments. We couldn't afford it, so our granddaughter and her husband bought us a unit which we pay them rent, and have the security of having a roof over our heads, for which we are eternally grateful. I have said all that to say this - my heart is breaking for the people forced to live in their cars and tents because they have nowhere to go. The government has brought in so many migrants, families are forced out of homes and living in backyards, car parks or wherever. Going into BUndaberg, you see them on the side of the road, it is heart breaking. I thank God every day for His provision. The Greens and Labor have destroyed this country and I know they have all sold out to the WEF. Handouts are not the answer

My husband's rental property insurance just went up by over 30%. He can afford it; millions can't. We need RESPONSIBLE fiscal management!

Expand full comment

Yep, I totally can't afford mine anymore after coming of 2% fixed rates, plus increasing council rates, repairs and insurance etc, and you really don't get much back in tax either. As single mum its killing me to keep it as its my only asset and if I sell it I'll be in the red anyway, so I kept telling my parents I'll be moving back in with them soon enough (which they don't want, nor do I really) so i don't need to pay rent and bills where I'm currently living cos i couldn't afford to buy a house on a single income in Sydney (mind you the rent I pay is almost the same as my mortgage repayments for my investment so if I didn't need to stay in Sydney for the kids I'd easily move into my rental in QLD).

But hey I'm glad the billionaires who so desperately need cash will be getting hand outs too, if they had any decency they would pool tehri hand outs and tax cist together and support the homeless and build more homes to solve this housing crisis, but we know they wont.

Sorry for your situation. People tend to think landlords are the "enemy" - fat cats who squeeze their tenants. But many of them are just like you and me, trying to make ends meet while maintaining an investment and providing a home for someone else.

Perhaps government could learn to differentiate, and give the poorer landlords some breaks.

Expand full comment

100% there are some landlords - like mine that have had their property for over 20 years and done minimal to no maintenance and just cash in on us unfortunate ones, then there are some amazing landlords, or even good landlords that are just struggling to keep their investment / nest egg viable and a roof over their tenants heads.

This country used to be the lucky country with the big Aussie dream and 1/4 acre block, now its just a nightmare turning into rack and stack 'em units everywhere and slum like conditions in some areas, its just not Australia anymore

I try to keep my rental house in good repair, as I would if I were luving there. My husband tells me I'd get more returns for my investment if I sold it. But if everyone sold their rental property, where would those renters go? I feel some responsibility toward my tenants. At the same time I have to pay the bills...

But would we want to foist the little Bandtman on the poor Zimbabweans who are in the midst of a drought with massive food shortages? Barnabus are sending them food from their food.gives program. Not just money but massive food aid. They need our prayers. Lord make it rain in Zimbabwe.

Better to send him to Gaza or Nagorno Karabakh. The Azeris are busy erasing and rewriting their history so any traces of the Armenians Christians are gone. They even remove the stones from their churches. The Armenians, 120,000 of them fled to Armenia and stay in church halls, or with distant relatives till they are able to get on their feet. Or Nigeria, Cameroon, Mozambique…

The Bandtman doesn’t care how hard life is for anyone.

Very true James.

My house insurance premium just went up 16.5 %. The biggest part of the increase was the govt " levy " ESL which was 17%. ie 17% tax increase! The water connection charge went up 12%.

After putting the rent up only 5.5 and 6% each of the last 3 years I now find that if I advertised for a new tenant the market rate is 400 or $410 ,per week. I am now charging only $300 pw. So I am now putting it up to $350pw.The Tennants are screaming murder and say if it goes up then I will have plenty of money to do a long list of extra repairs. I have already spent a lot on improvements.

All I am trying to do is keep up with the govt created inflation of costs plus higher intrest rates. My only part win is that a $ 168,000 house has gone up a lot over the last 10 years, but so has every other house so my net gain is 0.

Seems to me paying off a house is like wearing a millstone around one's neck. As for me, I always avoided wearing one of those.

My rental house in NSW is the same - I refused to put the rent up for years, keeping it at $300 pw. Last year was struggling to pay bills (paying out more than rental income!) So decided to increase rent to $350 pw. Tenants have not murmured- it's STILL the cheapest rent in the district!

Bandt is typical of the activist that has been brought up in a western democracy and has the ideology of Trotskyism….all from his comfortable lounge holding a glass of red in his hand.

You’re right James he should be in Zimbabwe or some other godforsaken country…not Australia….

No one should vote anything but Liberal in this next election….its too dangerous.

The coalition has caused most of Labor’s initial problems with their profligacy during g the plandemic. They are not any better than Labor. When they preselect previous wets who lost their seats they become unelectable. There is a small handful of conservatives in parliament and one of them has been placed at the bottom of the ticket for the next election.

Jillian we should never ever have changed government after Covid we would have definitely been better off with Frydenberg he knew what he was doing, and Scomo (like him or not). Labour have historically never been able to manage an economy….and here we are again. Take a look at Frydenbergs qualifications and compare to Chalmers and Gallagher.

Expand full comment

Seriously . The last Coalition jail with the few exceptions, Canavan, Rennick, Antic, Broadbent all should be in jail. Frydenberg spent like there was no tomorrow. Hunt and Morrison sold us out to the state premiers .

Expand full comment

Yes seriously….i think you’ll find the States run Medical and Dental and Frydenberg got us through Covid…hence the big spend….we needed it because of the lockdowns. He would have had a plan to take us into the next phase after Covid, he at least was very well qualified to do so…..but of course that was stymied by Labour lying to the public that they had a plan. They never did and also NO qualifications in economic or financial handling.

They still have no plan and have no idea of governance…most of them are union hacks.

I disagree that these entities ‘got us through’. They destroyed the health system. Foisted dangerous ‘vaccines’ on us. Lied to us. Implemented dangerous regimes line lockdowns, made us wear masks, isolated us from our families. We had hardly any deaths until after the ‘vaccines’. These ‘experts’ left many people with on going health problems with many young people across the world dropping dead ‘inexplicably’. And the Coalition presided over all that.

Labor are no better but I will never vote for the coalition again. They are one half of the uniparty.

Any government would have done the same….they were following international protocols instead of our own Pandemic Management which had been put in place many moons ago. In a word…they panicked!

Jillian you must remember the core values of the Conservative Coalition made this country what it is today AND the Labour Parties of yesteryear were more right wing thinking. I think they would be rolling in their graves right now….particularly Doc Evatt regarding Albanese’s support of Palestine.

If you vote anything but Coalition it’s a vote for the Left ideology.

In saying that we have freedom of speech in this country which will disappear if this current government is returned.

Couldn’t agree more Peg - into the distant future, it will either be Liberal or Labor in power. By all means put their minor party first but for goodness sake next preference the Libs - or else the vote could end up with Labor.
