IT’S International Lesbian Visibility Week. I don’t know if that means lesbians will be getting around in Hi Vis jackets, or if it means that we need to point them out. Whatever the case, yay lesbians! London Mayor Sadiq Khan was quick to raise the lesbian flag (yes, there is a flag for women who sleep with each other) from City Hall ‘to celebrate London’s lesbian communities and their contributions to the city’s past and present’.
Thanks, James, I had NO idea that there were all those celebrations not to mention ‘genders’! I have a teacher friend whose school has a lesbian club ONLY open to lesbians (not very inclusive or tolerant…). He suggested tongue in cheek what’s to stop him from declaring himself a lesbian for 45 minutes ie. the lunch break, just to see their true inclusiveness in action. According to their rules, they should accept him. But I suspect he’d be rejected as he’s a devout Christian and one of those deplorables, a disgusting white male.
Ah such clarity and empathy James. However I got there first I believe. I had an epiphany in the beer tent at the Fieldays some years ago and came out as a lesbian. As did other tree felling, ute driving blokes. Well they were blokes back then judging by the left turn they took at the dunny block. Seemed to be universal and earnest agreement at the time that it was very good to sleep with women. And now we have a flag to gather under. Well done fellow lesbians. Arise!
