All Trumps appointees so far seem to be very well qualified and informed about their new jobs. As long as Trump avoids being murdered, the super rich don't crash the world economy, big pharma release another newly bred deadly disease and he can keep all his appointees working together then there is a chance that he can reform the US govt which badly needs doing. We need to do the same here in Aust but the current crop of "leaders " is useless.

Turkey is NATO's Achilles Heel.

Trump certainly is showing the way . Fancy a leader of a great nation having the temerity to hire people who know what they are doing instead of entrusting important work to bureaucrats' or political hacks ? What on earth is happening ?

My wife tells me that if someone won’t start driving when the light turns green, I could be fined for giving a small toot (to get them off their phone). I tell her they are endangering my life therefore a small toot is justified.

I agree Shane. I steam up at the slow movers and when I blow my stack I'm likely to fracture a few decibels!

I had an amusing incident recently when I was dawdling along in the town centre when this bloke shambled across the road babbling on his phone -without looking ,so I just idled up until the roo bar of the Patrol was almost touching him and let her rip (good loud horn on that vehicle ) He could have won a medal for the standing high jump and when he came down was frothing at the mouth like Donald Duck at his best . Ill bet his heart rate was up but how bloody stupid have you got to be ? And I suppose that this bloke both breeds and votes .

I am seriously laughing out loud here. I love it.

When I used to work in the CBD, I gave someone a fright once because as he was walking while staring at his phone, I refused to move aside while crossing the road. When I said boo, he jumped. I told him, better me and not a car knocking you over. I was rather amused. My colleague loved the show.

Love your work. It seems you can be a pro pally terrorist but blow your recorder and you’re a criminal.

And the problem with that is????

I think we'll all be criminals soon. Might give me something to do when I spend a year in jail. As long as I can take my recorder, I should be right for a year. Imagine all the opinion pieces I'll have time to write in that time.

"Can I suggest the fine should be even more when the instrument is a recorder?"

Well, that's debatable. I mean, consider the offensive noise Albanese, Wong and Thorpe emit every time they open their mouth? After having to suffer that, any noise from a screeching recorder player would be heavenly music in comparison.

Hopefully Erdogan giving Hamas shelter will spell the end of NATO and especially Turkey’s membership.

At the start of WWI about 33% of the people in the Turkish Empire were Christians. I think today the % of Christians, in a much smaller area is about 5%. The vast majority of the Armenian and Greek Christians have been murdered and their property stolen. Germany has vast numbers of Moslem Turks. They should never have been allowed into NATO. At least they have not been allowed into the EU. The current dictator of Turkey had 80,000 political prisoners locked up a few years ago.

The billionaire leaders of Hamas have been ordered out of Qatar where they have been safely organising the war against Israel. The Qatar rulers realise that Trump is coming again ( thankyou jesus) so are getting in 1st and have expelled Hamas terrorists. Penny Wong helps Hamas with our taxpayers money so she needs to be expelled too!

Yes. The people want these usurpers out of Germany. The traffic light govt just collapsed and is looking at losing but still not addressing the problem of Muslim migration.

"Playing a musical instrument and “emitting offensive noise” could cost you a $300 fine in NSW."

Oh dear. Given that all three of my children are learning musical instruments and both my husband and I teach instrumental music as a living and operate this business partly from home, I guess we are doing some very risky business.

Furthermore, given that we encourage our students to do lots of practice, what if our students sue us because they got fined for making 'offensive noise' as a result of their neighbour dobbing on them?

Well, I guess I'll just have to prepare for what I'll say when I get a knock on the door by a police officer. When he tells me I am guilty of 'emitting offensive noise',...

I could say "To call Beethoven's music 'offensive noise' is racist against Germans! And as someone who has German heritage, I am offended by your racist comments."

Or I could say "Tell the bitter and twisted neighbour to take up an instrument. It'll help them feel less offended!!"

Or I could say "Thank you!! Given that the premiere of Stravinsky's famous 'The Rite of Spring' was so offensive to the audience that the audience actually began throwing their chairs at the orchestra, I'll take that as a compliment!"

"Consider the fact the [Qld Labor Govt] spent $139,000 on advertising every day last financial year and still couldn’t convince the public to vote for them!"

This is encouraging as it gives me hope in my fellow Queenslanders, that they know how to think after all.

All that money for a lot of crowing? We could use a tiny bit of that to seal some roads and fill in pot holes around here. There is a dodgy bridge across the Barron River that needs replacing badly. Traffic is reduced to one lane with "stop and go" signals. Too many trucks on it all at once may collapse it!

Expand full comment

Is that the Kamerunga bridge?

Yes, absolutely. Roads, streets and bridges are in disrepair all over the place in this state. It's an utter disgrace. I have heard that up in Cairns, they have spent a lot of the money on bike lanes up and down the Bruce highway! It's ridiculous, considering there are so many more important things to spend money on in regard to road infrastructure!

Expand full comment

It is the bridge near Kuranda, Atherton Tableland. It was built ca. 60 years ago. The Kuranda range road is the main link between Cairns and Mareeba. Many people who live in Mareeba travel to their jobs in Cairns every day. If that bridge collapses - an unthinkable disaster for our area up here. There has been talk (only talk) about building a tunnel road down to/up from Cairns. There is a rail link to Mareeba and beyond, but it is only for the use of a tourist train.
