If you publicly call for the murder of another person, you should be charged with a crime.
The alternative is anarchy; a society in which no-one is safe.
And yet some of my conservative friends were hesitant to back calls for American band Tenacious D to be deported from this country after Kyle Gass said he hoped the next shot at Trump didn’t miss.
‘We don’t want to be part of cancel culture,’ they said.
‘We need to support free speech,’ they argued.
It was stupidity posing as high-mindedness.
To equate calls for deportation with cancel culture is to completely forget what cancel culture is.
One one side you have the Left - people who will get you fired for something you said on Facebook ten years ago; or for pointing out that sex is a fixed biological reality.
Misgender someone, and the Left will have you exiled faster than you can say “woke”.
They’ll label you a terrorist and have you hung, drawn and quartered over a single pronoun.
They cry that “words are violence” while, at the same time, calling for Donald Trump to be shot dead.
On the other side, you have conservatives - people who will get you fired for celebrating the murder of a volunteer firefighter, or for lamenting the failed assassination of a President.
Anyone who says both sides are equally engaging in cancel culture is either completely stupid, or completely dishonest.
There is no comparisons, and we are not being kind or polite or virtuous by pretending that there is.
Well said Mac!
It is truly beyond belief what utter nonsense we have to put up with these days, I'm as exasperated and frustrated as you are!!
The West has allowed itself to be white anted by the insitutions. We had better get our boots on quick if we want to savour any of our amazing life....
"A lie travels around the world while the truth is still getting it's boots on." (Winston Churchill)
My heart is sad for the youth of today. Hollywood stars are tragically awful role models for the most part. Our politicians are too often evidently without principles.
