The Scottish Parliament Demonstrates How Woke Leads All the Way Back to Paganism
But it's not all bad news
Scotland is proving what many have warned about for years - woke progressivism leads all the way back to paganism.
Last week the Scottish government invited a pagan to address parliament on behalf of druids, shamans and witches.
Local media called it an “historic day”.
Indeed. Scotland now seems to be the first country in the world to be run by Disney!
Reverend Linda Haggerstone – who once described how her grandmother influenced her path in life by “putting out saucers of milk for the fairies” - become the first pagan to address MPs.
She began her four minute address telling Parliament …
"My chosen path is druidry. But a pagan may, for example, identify as wiccan, heathen, or a witch."
Okay!
She continued …
"By the power of star and stone, by the power of the land within and without, by all that is fair and free, I welcome you today to this Time for Reflection."
Haggerstone and her fairies at the bottom of the garden spirituality is finding growing popularity among the global elite.
She led the pagan prayer for the COP26 interfaith vigil in Glasgow in 2021. And her campaign to have paganism taught in schools is gaining momentum.
Atheists would likely be more surprised by this development than Christians.
Atheists, typified by Richard Dawkins, argued that when humanity finally kicked the Christian God to the curb we would be free of religion forever.
The new atheists should have listened to GK Chesterton who rightly predicted that people would not replace their belief in God wth nothing, but with belief in anything.
And the Apostle Paul argued that a culture rejecting God would inevitably end up worshipping creation.
The reason was obvious to him; the majesty of creation points to the Divine making it seem divine itself.
God made the sunset to be magnificent, a sign post directing observers to His own magnificence.
God created the ocean to be awesome in power, a pointer to His own omnipotence.
God decorated the night sky with stars, all of which declare the existence of One who is high and lifted up.
God designed the interconnectedness of earth, plant and animal, pointing to Himself as the One who holds all things together by the power of His Word.
The Apostle Paul argued that there was a spiritual nature to nature - it is magnificent, powerful, transcendent and unified - so that what could be known about God could be understood from what had been made.
This meant that, even without a Christian Bible or a Christian preacher, men would be without excuse for failing to recognise that there was a Creator.
Creation clearly points to a Creator. It practically screams His name!
But what if people did not want a Creator?
What if people didn’t want to live in that kind of universe?
Well, Paul argued, they would reject the Creator and instead worship His creation, since creation would seem to provide some satisfaction for man’s desire of spirituality, but without any of the personal obligation.
Western culture’s flirtation with atheism was never sustainable. A man cannot believe in nothing.
And so our post Christian culture of atheism, where nothing is worshipped, is slowly giving way to a pre-christian culture of paganism in which creation is worshipped.
I say pre-Christian for practical and historic reasons.
Practically, people who subscribe to the magic of creation eventually realise that where there is magic there must be a magician. And historically that is exactly what happened.
The last thing pagans ever did was get baptised into the Christian Church.
The most telling scene in the movie Excalibur is when Merlin the Wizard tells his sister the witch …
"The days of our kind are numberèd. The one God comes to drive out the many gods. The spirits of wood and stream grow silent. It's the way of things."
When the atheist culture starts worshipping creation we know that culture has turned a corner; no longer post Christian, but pre-christian; no longer travelling further away from God, but coming back around to Him without realising it.
What a beautiful summary of the Psalm that says the heavens declare the glory of God and day by day pours forth speech to those who are listening. Thanks again James for this encouragement to worship the one who made it all and died for us.
Another lovely homily...er, article James.
So I guess in Scotland now it won’t be ‘welcome to country’, it’ll be ‘welcome to the wee garden up the backyard’.
