Musician Tim Minchin has spoken out against haters, declaring that we must not dehumanise those with whom we disagree.
This is the same Tim Minchin who released a song describing Catholic Cardinal George Pell as “scum”, a "pompous buffoon" and a "goddam coward".
"I've got a nice spot in hell with your name on it,” he sang about the Catholic Cardinal who was later exonerated of sex abuse charges after wrongfully serving 13 months in prison, 8 of those in solitary confinement.
Charming.
Minchin, a darling of the ABC, was quoted in the Daily Telegraph today arguing that screaming against people you don’t like is counter productive.
“The backlash against woke is inevitable and deserved, in a way,” he said.
“Because good left liberal ideas have been distorted by public-shaming, self-serving, narcissistic people who think they have a right to scream at anyone who disagrees with them.”
Indeed.
We look forward to Minchin’s song about how the High Court unanimously overturned Pell’s conviction and completely exonerated him from all wrong doing.
Would it be too much to ask for a song about cowardly buffoons who write songs defaming churchmen?
Minchin’s comments about the importance of not abusing one another came as he helped promote his sister’s soon-to-be released documentary about Israel Folau.
Israel Folau lost his contract with Australian Rugby Union after he posted on Instagram that homosexuals would go to hell unless they repented of their sins and were saved by Jesus.
The singer/song writer said he didn’t hate Folau. Rather, he regarded him as “not very educated”.
So much more tolerant.
Thanks James. It’s the trouble with following an ideology that’s an absolute lie - it doesn’t matter what you say or how you say it because it’s for the good of all. It’s only those who don’t agree with the ideology that are at fault no matter what they say or do. It’s a no win, no win for those who disagree.
Personally, I’m sick of being treated like a 10yr old everywhere I go by being told how to behave, by the arrogant who think they don’t have to behave themselves, like Minchin. When did it become ‘right’ and ‘essential’ to use any and every platform to tell others how to behave? What happened to adult responsibility, minding your own business and being humble?
We already know how to behave in both public and in private because many of us have been doing it for over 50, 60, 70+ years. We were taught as children and don’t need to be reminded every second of every day by others who have not even the slightest amount of self awareness!
A bloke who misuses whatever talent God gave him.
