I’m sooo over the whole ‘welcome to country’ fiasco. Let’s just drop it altogether. I was not born in this country but I am a proud citizen and this is my home. Why do I need to be welcomed to my country! This is the new ‘look at me look at me’ phase for a minority of indigenous. I know many indigenous and NONE of them want all this garbage nor want any part in the voice to parliament. Another way to scam money from hard working Australians, from many different cultures. Let’s get rid of Albo the wannabe indigenous hero so all this is history!

Thanks for your courage, James!

My remote control has a mute button, it comes in handy on such occasions, also when female footy ‘Experts’ talk over the top of males who have played the sport at an elite level.

Our mob love the footy, NRL, AFL, Wolrd cups, etc. and we only have dancing when the music makes us feel like it. Most of us have jobs, families, hobbies, friends and don't have time for all this old stuff.

We are not into ceremonies at all and never insult anyone by welcoming them to their own country.

These offended people want to be on the TV and have our full attention. They make heaps out of it. She needs to get over herself. Perhaps they should go to the airport and welcome every new plane that arrives. She will be busy over the next couple of years with all the new immigrants that are coming. QANTAS has plenty of work for them.

You would think they have not integrated with the Australian community, but they live in the suburbs and have jobs like the rest of us. They go to events and talk while others are performing.

If they want to dance and enjoy it, go ahead, but don't expect me to change channel to watch you.

I remember some people talking over the coronation not so long ago, but we didn't hear the new king complaining about that ABC broadcast disgrace. They put their public show on for us to share the moment. They only do it when a monarch dies and they don't force anyone to watch it.

Great comment re the coronation. I was also wondering about how many people talk during the playing of the national anthem (of any country) - this is surely is also truly shocking and disrespectful and diminishing and whatever else you want to add in.

It appears to me that Aunty Julie holds to the belief that "welcome to country" deserves the same reverence and respect as a national anthem that unites a nation and inspires patriotic pride. I hold to the belief that welcome to country is symbolic only and only in certain circumstances. I know from personal experience that it is very rarely extended by indigenous people to other indigenous people in urban environments, regional, even when requested for psychological health. Also, as the majority of indigenous people who provide a welcome to country receive a financial renumeration, does that not become an entertainment that has been financially recompensed? A more frightening scenario I can see is if the Yes vote succeeds at the referendum is a constitutionally enshrined obsequience to indigenous for profit cultural practices to take precedence over all other religious or patriotic practices?

Thanks James. Go channel 7 🙌 I hope they continue ignoring this stupid rubbish that’s being thrust upon us. May more and more if the legacy media see it for what it is.

I agree to turning our backs on this.

The only reason that this rubbish came to any prominence is that politicians backed it for their own ends. Social engineering at its best!

'...routinely implied that Indigenous people are not just deserving of respect like everyone else; but they are deserving of MORE RESPECT THAN ANY ONE ELSE.' touché

Oh, I hope Channel 7 don't apologise!!!

As always so well said.

Fancy this scenario will you.... you attend a friends wedding, these friends have no indigenous heritage, and the bride and grooms speeches are shorter than the welcome to country. No no I kid you not - this is real life.

Like seriously - it's a wedding of non indigenous people, why is a welcome to country required? You could justify it at wedding of a person/people who identifies as indigenous, maybe.

The true purpose and meaning of welcome to country has been lost, and the way it is being used is actually insulting to the true indigenous practice of welcome to country, many true indigenous peoples are in fact against it being used in this politicised way.

My friend who relayed this story to me is more left leaning than I am, but they too are fed up with the BS we have to put up with when we just want to get on with our lives and be respectful and tolerant without having to curtail and bow to these people in society who have nothing to do with our daily lives. (And by people I mean political cry-baby, attention seeking elitists, not the real people suffering who need our support and attention).

Until people start to wake up, and be brave, and stand up, rather than give in, or duck and hide from logic and truth, we will all continue to suffer. There are more of us than there are of those in power who make these decisions and force their opinions and ideology upon us, the sooner we realise we are the ones with power and we have the power to make change, the better!

All I can say is, come Lord Jesus quickly!

Sure I read recently that the Kalahari bush people actually have an older culture than our mob... wish I could find that article again😡

That might give us some peace for a moment 😂

Enough of this James!! Please give us something good we can winge about. The Australian Indigenous folk have been misled into believing they are 65,000-100,000 years on this planet. The Bible says God threatened to destroy all living things on the Earth. But Noah was a good bloke and built the Ark in which 8 souls and myriads of animals were floated above the flood waters and thus saved from extinction. That was only about 4,500 years ago. Thus, the people on the whole planet are descended from that saved group, so we are all sharing the same length of time as each other. Also, this welcome to country is dabbling in a spiritual realm, a backward step to ancestor worship and I'm not wanting to be welcomed to that smokey world thank you.

It’s been non stop and over-played this welcome to country stuff. And how many times have commentators spoken about stuff when dancers etc are performing no matter who it is. They love to spread this victim mentality. It’s our govt , every meeting every presentation etc. so over it

Good commonsense comments.

Even Jacinta Price is against welcome to country as she says it is tokenistic & taken out of context. Apparently it is a sacred rite to be performed at some rare aboriginal ceremonies, not just trotted out for other races to sprout out all over the place where it becomes meaningless.

One day there will be a big backlash of people getting SO sick of it & hopefully it will disappear but not if the Voice gets in. If it does, get used to it being used more & more!! We used to sing the National Anthem once upon a time, or say The Lord's Prayer-- remember those dim fading days??
