I gave up on footy when they went woke. I would rather contribute to a worthy charity than than the ball chasing bozos. Sorry.

As a long suffering Freo supporter I feel your pain. However, we at least didn't mention Lunar New Year.

Hi James , really enjoying your posts, gives me a good laugh at times and you usually hit the nail on the head. So sorry James but I was a member of "The Anti Football Club" back in the stone age in Melbourne so foot ball is not my forte, watch the darts from England and the cricket until they went woke! Don't shop woolies any more and I have been a Nutrimetics (cosmetics) Consultant for over 20 years, receive lots of emails from them, nothing on Australia Day but received an email Happy Waitangi Day so I am resigning, So bloody sick of the hate for Australia and the woke morons, I'm 82 so probably nothing will change before I move on!!! Keep up the good work.

Well said, Merlene, and I’m with you 100%. Long gone are the days when sport was sport and to be enjoyed for the love of the game.

I feel your pain, Merlene. I am so sick of the hate for Australia too. People, including sports teams, need to man-up and stand against these woke bullies. Because if they don't, one day, the Australia that we all know and love, will no longer exist.

Be of good courage James, as a Demon supporter I feel your pain and I was wondering if I would live long enough to see them take another flag after the game I saw in 1964.

IN fact when my TV died in 2020 I resolved that I would not replace it until the Ds made the fop four.

So in 2021 they won but I didn't dash out and get a new TV in case it was a fluke.

They had the squad to win three in a row and I think my lack of faith put a hex on them.

Sorry.

I am yet to discover why so many people go ape over a game where a ball is kicked around a field and then the winners are heros! It is the same as pop stars, all I have ever seen , is mass hysteria and that fascinates me more than watching any sport. Why do people get so caught up in these activities? Even as a teen way back in the dark ages, I was fascinated at the way girls screamed at pop stars and fainted etc. It is all a little too weird and if they don't want to celebrate Australia Day, then they are the ones who miss out. It is all so foolish

I know your pain James. I’m an NRL Tigers fan. Perennial losers to be sure, but at least they’re dignified enough to not lecture their fans on anything other than how things will be different this season. Sigh…..

Football ?a mob of overpaid ,brain dead bogans chasing a ball around a muddy paddock are heros ? Blokes like Ben Roberts-Smith are heros . In my early twenties I was a member of t he Parramatta Leages Club mainly for the social side of things ,when one training day I was there for a counter lunch before starting my afternoon shift when Artie Beetson and his team came in for lunch. Lunch for Arty was six meat pies and 12 schooners of beer . (and they wondered why they were the wooden spooners for years.!! )

On a point of detail, conceding that they trained on pies and beer in those days, and had a smoke in the sheds at half time. In the four years before 1980 when "half a game Artie" joined the club, they were in the finals every year and contested three grand finals which they could have won with an ounce of luck, a fair go from the officials and more than two marque players.

In the six years after Artie moved on they contested five grand finals and won four.

Think you got it bad bro, try supporting the Australian rugby team and their sycophantic board and hierarchy. They cleverley displayed their wokeness by employing a CEO bird from un zed and when she ran them $ millions into debt, said tut tut maybe you need to go back to the land of the long black smog and try destroying some sporting body there.

It’s it the team. It’s the suits. But then, who would know? We’re not allowed to comment 🤐

Love it -"the Chinese communist party doesn't tolerate losers"😂😂

Try singing the club song every week James and it might be the same as "build it and they will come" - sing it and they may WIN an occasional game throughout the year and then maybe a premiership - (keep singing) -but not in your lifetime😂 -Please ring the club and voice your disapproval if they don't allow conversation

They should be re-badged as the Pandas.

James, the North Melbourne Football club sound like losers in every sense of the word. They are inept at playing football, but good at rubbing our country in the dirt. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would continue to support them. I mean, why support a dead fish to learn to swim, especially one, where the only thing it can do successfully now, is to release poisonous, deeply offensive woke toxins from its dead corpse?

Expand full comment

That’s harsh Heather.

Poor players are held to ransom over what the suits upstairs decide. And by no means is the North Melbourne club the worst - gosh, so many clubs dance the woke dance. My club Sydney is part of the ‘pride game’ every year. Just want ‘em all to play footy.

Hurry start to the new season! Go Swans and Go Roos.

Expand full comment

I'm sorry to have been so harsh, Andrea. Concerning the players themselves and their performance, it is probably fair to say that this was an unfair judgement on my part, not knowing all the circumstances. So I apologise for that.

However, I don't take kindly to the trashing of my country. It is deeply offensive. I am a 5th generation Queenslander and happen to be very proud of my ancestor's contribution to the prosperity of this country. Like many others, they worked extremely hard, endured much and survived with little. It's because of the hard work and sacrifice of people like my ancestors, that we can enjoy many things here in Australia, like sporting events.

If clubs and other organisations don't start manning up and standing up against these woke bullies, the Australia that we all know and love will soon be non-existent.

My thoughts exactly Heather I am a First Fleeter and anyone who doesnt like it can go and do the physically impossible. They would fit the narative.

That's pretty amazing that you can trace your family back to the First Fleet! My family were pioneers in Queensland, who came to Brisbane around the mid 1800s.

All my cousins wifes hard work . Andrew Fishburrn was a marine shipwright in Friendship until Rio then was sent to Sirious for the remainder of the voyage. He was at Norfolk Island when the ship was wrecked . He married a convict girl from the second fleet , and onward from there ,over 20 family members fought in The Great war and we know of at least six that were killed there. Andrews family were ship builder and I believe were the builders of the colliier that became Cooks Endeavor.

Poor poor James, I sense you need some a good therapeutic coffee and a deep chat to console your disappointment in your beloved team.

Like I said last time, when (if ever) they win again I’ll shout you a celebratory coffee ☕️

But you just said, "In 2020 we won 3 of 17 games. In 2021 we won 4 of 22 games. In 2022 we won 2 of 22 games. In 2023 we won 3 of 22 games. That’s right, in 4 years we have won 12 of 83 games."

Okay, half dead. And that's being generous. I wonder how long it will take you to get your silver? You might get it quicker if you mine it yourself. Sorry - I'm being a little facetious! : )

Uh ohhh

Lol

There are lots of political voices and issues surrounding Australian day between citizens and non citizens…. And unfortunately there are anger and criticisms from historical point of view and generational trauma that in view of some - has made Australia - Australia.

So a lot of these organisations trying to play it safe , and trying to avoid protestors at their doorstep etc

However there aren’t many political voices and issues surrounding Chinese new year.

Chinese new year is viewed by many as a multicultural and traditional celebration, and wishing happy lunar new year (considering Chinese population is growing in Australia) - is almost like wishing merry Christmas.

And celebrating it every year around the world has not shown to offend anyone, so far - well at least publicly.

I’m Just trying to see it from different angles as to why this is the case …

Well said James, I feel your pain. As an NRL, Canterbury Bankstown fan for almost 60 years, the last years have been disastrous to say the least. If i lived anywhere near their games, I wouldn’t have handed over 2cents to watch them sook, I mean play.

Boo for the clubs who’ve forgotten what’s important and may someone with a brain teach these dopes to concentrate on the games instead of the politics of the week.

May North Melbourne & Canterbury at least win more than 2 or 3 games in 2024.
