The ABC received record injections of $1.1b funding last year while audience numbers decreased.
The record amount of taxpayer funding coincided with a drop in its total audience of 670,000 people a week on average.
So they got more money for delivering news to a smaller audience.

The Federal Parliament has just agreed that a nuclear waste storage facility can be established in Port Adelaide.
So you cannot store nuclear waste in the outback town of Kimba. But you can store nuclear waste in Adelaide’s western suburbs.

Three Chinese astronauts have blasted from earth to China’s Tiangong space station in the communist nation’s latest step to establish a base on the moon.
So China is classified as a developing country and therefore able to avoid tough emissions restrictions. But they are so developed they can fire astronauts to their own space station in preparation for a moon base.

Kamala Harris said this today …
“America for too long, we have been consumed with too much division, chaos and mutual distrust. It can be easy then, to forget a simple truth: It doesn't have to be this way.
“We have to stop pointing fingers and start locking arms. It is time to turn the page on the drama and the conflict, the fear and division."
Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz - asked if he stood by claims that Trump’s Madison Square Gardens rally was a direct parallel with a Nazi rally - said this today …
“I’m comparing it (the Nazi rally) to the hate that came out of this (the Trump rally), and I think they confirmed that. The rally, you saw for yourself. I’ll let the American public make the decision what they saw. I know what I saw, and I’ll just leave it at that.”
Meanwhile President Biden said this today …
“The only garbage I see floating out there are his (Trump’s) supporters.”
Wait. What was it Kamala said?

Animal rights activists in America want to liberate five elephants from the Colorado zoo.
So they have petitioned the Supreme Court to declare the elephants “persons” deserving of emancipation just as slaves were.
Supreme Court judge Melissa Hart said she was inclined to reject the request, but not for the reasons you might think.
Justice Hart worried that if she agreed classify elephants as “persons” with rights, there would be nothing to stop dogs and cats claiming the same status.
“Where does it stop?” she asked.

Wholesale energy prices rose by 88 percent nationally over the last quarter, according to figures out today from the Australian Energy Market Operator.
Oh, and repeat after me … renewables are the cheapest form of energy.

The Taliban, who took power in Afghanistan after Joe Biden’s America ran away, have just banned women from hearing other women’s voices.
The new law comes after women had already been banned from uncovering their faces in public, speaking in the presence of men they were not related to or leaving home without a male chaperone.
No society in the history of mankind has imposed such draconian restrictions on women as the Taliban now do in 2024.
And yet there are no protests. The International Criminal Court is not pursuing anyone. The United Nations is not outraged. Feminists in the West are unconcerned.

South Australia’s Employment Court has just ruled that a council staff member who injured herself working from home after tripping on a pet fence she herself had erected was entitled to workers compensation.
The City of Charles Sturt asset officer was working from home when she went to make a coffee in the kitchen.”
She forgot that the previous day she had erected a 60cm high fence in a doorway to stop her dog getting at her pet rabbit.
She tripped, injured her leg and had to be taken to hospital.
The court ruled that though she had created the hazard and though council was not aware of the hazard, none of this meant it was not employment related.
Since she had been offered flexible work arrangements which had included the encouragement “enjoy time with your dog”, the council was liable for damages.

A NSW District Court Judge has decided we just don’t have enough Welcome to Country ceremonies.
So Judge Penelope Wass invited a violent teenager, convicted to sexually abusing an elderly women, to perform a Welcome to Country in the middle of her court room before sentencing.
The NSW shadow attorney general said …
“The idea that a prisoner in the dock would be elevated to a de facto officer of the court and perform a ceremony on behalf of the court is not something that I’ve ever heard of and seems to me to be entirely inappropriate.”
Worse, the judge said she would be happy to have the violent criminal return to her courtroom and perform the ceremony again at any time.
Seriously, I promise I’m not making this up.
Someone … anyone … make it make sense!

I do so miss the days of common sense, at least we changed Governments in Qld
