I’m a fan of Gerard Henderson’s column in The Australian.
So you can imagine my surprise when, reading it yesterday, I discovered I was the subject of it!
Hang on a second. His columns are typically lamented the putrid state of the Australian media. Oh dear …
Okay. So, the way I read that was he hated Alexandra Marshall’s analysis, but he thought my commentary was bang on! :)
Gerard is a national treasure, he worked with Santamaria (ok, who knows about Santamaria today) and he was an office manager for John Howard. He has been around long enough to know where an incredible number of bodies are buried.
You have to be good to avoid criticism from Gerard because he pulls no punches even when the target is on our side.
He wrote an important piece in Quadrant many decades ago that blew the whistle on the Industrial Relations Club, "The Fridge Dwellers", the people who lived on the back of the wage-fixing system that in conjunction with protectionism institutionalised our low productivity and the slide to banana monarchy status.
Yep, that's the way I see it, for sure :-)
