Thank you, James, for your en-light-ening comments. I wasn't aware of the encyclical from the UN department of religious deeds so did not turn off the lights as "urged"!
I wonder how many moths around the (Globe)'s died that night when all the lights went out in our attempt at making peace with Nature? Did their navigational systems suffer when the bright city and suburban lights suddenly disappeared? Did millions of moth's crash to earth in panic only to be swooped upon by voracious bats and other predators whose night vision suddenly lit up at the feast presented?
Sure we saved precious electricity garnished from wind and solar sources and stored away in our batteries. But what happened after observing the obligatory/voluntary genuflect to the god of the night? Everyone turned on the lights again and an almighty surge through the power grid blew up appliances everywhere causing another power outage! The battery supply was instantly depleted, and everyone had to go to bed early due to there being no more lights. (This could be the scenario when all coal fired power stations are gone, and renewables are our saviors....at least until the next day, supposing nothing serious happens overnight.)
So keep the home lights burning, give the moths a chance, and as the privileged few jet off to another conference, give them a stunning view from space of the peasants wasting precious resources but having a good time doing it.
New LED lights only use 5-15 Watts, so they could be left on all day and we still wouldn't notice it on our power bill.
If you want to lower electricity use then don't buy an EV which uses more to charge it (85-100 kWh) than your daily power bill including air conditioning (20-40 kWh).
As ACC is a total scam and CO2 is part of the carbon cycle that helps plants grow, we can be vegetarians and save the planet that way.
If you want the facts then look for William Happer's "How to think about climate change" on YouTube and Michael Moore's "Planet of the humans" that show increased CO2 concentration does not increase its greenhouse effect and all renewables use more CO2 to produce than they save during their life.
Then what do you do with the toxic waste when they reach their life's end and how do we feel about the child slave labour to mine the materials used to make them in the first place?
It appears I owe a lot of people here an apology - I didn't realise it was Earth Hour last night but I was sitting in the backyard with a modest campfire going (with the obligatory frothy) during the designated time. I didn't have the outside spotlight going as I was enjoying the ambience of the flickering flame.
Had I known it was Earth Hour I quite possibly would have sacrificed the ambience.
I did, however, leave the empty house light up like a Christmas tree while I was enjoying the ambience - hopefully that redeems my other actions hahaha
Excellent James. I don’t have my lights on in the daytime! Does that count? Last night however I had lights, dishwasher, TV, DVD, fish tank, fridge and freezer all going on as normal. If I knew it was earth hour I may have started our car and left it going for a while.
In Canada in winter, they leave their trucks and cars running for the whole time they’re out if they don’t have an electricity supply to plug them in. It took me just a short while to get used to it and I think we should do it here in summer to keep our cars cool.
“Make the time - whether it’s 60 seconds, 60 minutes or beyond the hour - to reflect on the incredible benefits nature provides us”.
Take time to be holy, speak oft with Mother Nature; Abide in her always, and feed on woke's word. You'll surely be brainwashed, stumbling in the dark. Bow down to creation, praising her great name.
I wasn’t aware of this thankfully. In fact it’s probably been 15 years since I remember one of these ludicrous earth day, switch off the lights events. On that hour, 15 years ago, I got my three kids to run around and switch on every light and appliance they could find for the hour. Because, you know, there was a lot of spare energy floating around for those 60 minutes and I hated the idea of it going to waste.
Well, we were at the club last night & didn’t have a light on for a couple hours. How good am I !! I must have saved our planet for a good couple of months 🤣🤣🤣
Gold, James. Re "the hour - to reflect on the incredible benefits nature provides us”, In the dark and no tv, I thought they were trying to limit the population🤪. Isn't it time someone punched out the un / davros lights? No doubt the diminishing availability of finding and processing fossil fuels coupled with input output cost/ production ratios will mean intelligently pursuing alternatives. I don't think we have found that though with massive cost/ power to make/ recycle renewables being the current elephant in the room. Perhaps someone should tell the elephant not to fart🐘
I remember my parents telling me that in 1962 everyone in Perth left their lights on and shone torches into the sky so US astronaut John Glenn could see our city from orbit. Oh boy! A lot has changed in 60 years.

And so says ÀLL of US James..👏👏👏
UN has to go!!👏👏
Welcome back James I’ve missed your wit and wisdom.
The lights went out a long time ago for these climate alarmists. They don’t need to worry about one hour.
Thank you 😊 James
I have actually never heard of Earth Hour...should I be ashamed?

Ah James, “Let your light(s) shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven) Mt 5:16. James, you are pure gold!

Brilliant once again.

Oh a goodly chuckle 🤭
