DON’T expect conservatives to stop asking “What is a woman?”
And nor should they.
The more our political and cultural elites try to fold male “women” into women’s sports, prisons, public facilities and categories, the more urgently the question needs answering.
If radical leftists are going to redefine society, they should at least begin by defining terms.
That political leaders around the world are stumbling and stuttering and stalling for time when asked to define the term “woman” is unsurprising.
When you are struggling to balance your appeal to ‘normal’ people while addressing the increasingly insane demands from the far left, there is no good answer to the question.
It’s not that our elites don’t know what a woman is. There are many mysteries in the world, but the definition of a women is not one of them.
It is rather a case of our political class being so desperate to align with the radical left that they cannot acknowledge common sense.
LGBTQ activists insist that anyone who identifies as a woman is a woman, even if they have XY chromosomes and a penis.
And further, they demand that society and the law must treat male “women” as women in order to save them from violence, discrimination and suicide.
The insistence that the only way to respect trans people is to lie about their sex is beyond ridiculous.
The Human Rights Campaign, based in Washington DC with almost 4 million members, insists:
“When we say women, that word always includes trans women. There’s no ifs, ands or buts about it. A woman’s gender identity is her innermost concept of being female.”
Or, as US President Joe Biden once said, in the days before the Easter Bunny started moderating his public pronouncements:
“Trans women are women”
But the public are not buying this.
We’ve seen the photos of male “woman” Lia Thomas hulking over the women he demolished at the US college swim championships.
We’ve seen the photo of male “women’s” AFL player Hannah Mouncey.
We’ve seen photos of male “female” New Zealand Olympic weightlifter Laurel Hubbard.
The media tell us not to trust our lying eyes.
But a May 26 Gallup poll showed 62 per cent of Americans believe athletes should play on teams that “match their gender at birth”. The only surprise is that the number is not higher.
Then again, when those who dare to question trans ideology are immediately branded bigots it is likely most of the remaining 38 per cent were fibbing to protect themselves.
Or maybe they were mediocre male college athletes wanting to leave open the possibility of making a WNBA all-star team should they decide to identify as female down the track. Who knows?
South Australian Senator Alex Antic was not posing a cynical “gotcha” question when he asked secretary of the Health Department Brendan Murphy to define women earlier this month.
The question is vital, and it needs to be asked again and again, before it is too late.
Women are increasingly being referred to as birthers, bleeders, gestators, and chest-feeders, as well as with gender-neutral euphemisms such as “birthing people” and “pregnant individuals.
This language effectively erases women. And it is no longer fringe. In July President Biden used the term “birthing people” in a budget proposal.
This month Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed a bill declaring abortion to be a woman’s right. The bill never once mentions women, but instead uses the term “pregnant individuals”.
Women are half of humanity. Our cultural and political elites are seeking to erase or redefine women to placate radical activists and to endear themselves to nutcase ideologues.
Everyone knows what a woman is.
When our elites pretend to be clueless about what a woman is, they are lying.
They are lying about our mothers, our wives, our daughters and our girlfriends.
They are signalling their preparedness to sell women out in exchange for social credit, political power and money.
What is a woman?
Political and cultural leaders who cannot answer that question succinctly are not daft. They are dangerous. And they need to be called out before half the population is disappeared by a tiny group of insane ideologues.
At what popint are sane people going to stand up and say "enough is enough"! These trans people are in a minority and if we asre labelled "bigots" then so be it, better than lying
Thanks James. There’s so few calling this out, and it’s scary to think what it could lead to for our daughters and granddaughters if we do not speak up. I am a woman pastor (authentic plumbing and all) and still battling tradition and precedence that seems to trump Bible and logic when it comes to women in leadership - so contemplating another battle, where some men again assume they can muscle in wherever their egos and feelings are stroked is exhausting and infuriating. It’s also dangerous.
