Australians Need More than Labor's Word Soup Plan for a Plan to Bring Down Energy Prices
My latest for Sky News
Senior Government minister Tanya Plibersek went on Sky News Australia on Thursday to announce the government was “determined to do something” about skyrocketing energy prices.
Cynics would be right to fear that by announcing they intend to do something the government believes it has done something.
As for what the government will do, well, Ms Plibersek said: “It’s not for me to comment on the negotiations that will happen.”
Aha!
So the environment minister was announcing only that the government was determined to announce something, but what would be announced she could not announce.
Energy Minister Chris Bowen, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese have all made similar announcements about upcoming announcements over the past few months.
One can only imagine how baffled government ministers must be that, despite so many earnest statements of intent, energy prices continue to rise.
Thanks, James. Rich v poor gap to grow. I just can't see how this can possibly work when everyone gets home from work and massive power is required to recharge our renewable govt utopian ideals. Also, $$$ replacing recycling highly toxic batteries after their 10yr life span is a huge speed bump on the horizon. Perhaps by putting us more in debt, throwing a few billion more $ down the drain, they will promise to make the sun shine at night when we need it for HWS, solar powered vehicles, light, air cond etc etc. Can't they see the emperor has no clothes or substance?
You write the things we feel so well.
