So how do we support, in a practical sense, the arts & artists who don’t support the “artists demand letter”? Can those who penned & signed the letter be sacked by their production companies & performers replaced with those who didn’t? My family has had a long association as subscribers with the STC. After the “artists demand letter” came out we withdrew our subscriptions as we couldn’t bring ourselves to be part of an audience of a production which had any of those signatories involved in the production. It is difficult to give up this family tradition of attending STC & it feels like the “artists” won as they get to stay on whilst we, the paying audience, stay home. It doesn’t seem right. How does this role get reversed where these “ artists” are shown the door & we get to enjoy the performances? Can anyone suggest a practical solution?

These artists may be gifted in some way (or not) but they are like American movie stars who feel they can comment on politics and everything and unfortunately they are listened to. The reality is that most of them didn't and don't have the smarts to hold down a decent paying job. I think Harrison Ford was a carpenter so that was a start. I'll bet their IQs are in the double digits and their general knowledge would be woeful.

These tea towel- & table cloth-draped artists, etceteras, must be completely off their rockers with their bizarre demands. But I do have a genuine, urgent demand: I demand that cyclone 'Jasper' collapses into a little raincloud because right now the monster is heading straight for my front door!

Most of the "work" these people do is not allowed in many moslem countries.

If Aborigines want to call for the murder of millions of Jews then they can't complain endlessly about a few thousand Aboriginal deaths over the last 235 years

But at least moslems don't eat their victims from other tribes as the Aborigines did in their endless tribal wars.

If people wanted to see these artists then they could pay their money and lots of taxpayer money would not be needed in subsidies.

I can’t imagine that all of the STC staff, students & extras agree with this rubbish. What a shame to show Aussie’s and the rest of the world how self-absorbed and ignorant they are. Such an embarrassment for the intelligent, thinking people of this country. Thanks James.

Yawn indeed. These ‘artists’ are as tiresome as they are an ignorant history-free zone.

My husband is an Aboriginal artist, and very well established in the world of Aboriginal art. He and I are partners in an Aboriginal art business.

We stand with Israel.

It is outrageous and distressing that these people suggest that the violent crimes of Hamas against the Jewish people are somehow aligned with the Australian Aboriginal people. Absolutely not!!

Shame on these stooges who are a disgrace.Do they not realize that three of the most influential actors of all time, the Three Stooges ,were all Jewish and made us laugh, unlike this crop of stooges.

The three Stooges were Jews? And the Jews are accused of conspiring to rule the world?

I'm an artist, I paint, and I do not agree with a single thing they have written, but somehow they make it sound like they are representing all the artists in Australia. Shame on them

It is a shame they can use the Sydney Theatre name for their private political agenda.

Spoilt brats. Thanks for sussing out all this stuff James....

Again James the hypocrisy and blindness that could only happen in a wealthy, safe, democratic country like Australia.

This is war, when one party is being soundly beaten surely, for the sake of their citizens, the "honourable" thing to do is surrender, to minimise casualty. Particularly when they are the aggressors. All the leaders must surrender and any prisoners (hostages) released.

Why are we demanding the Israel ceasefire? It's insanity!

Nothing is 'honourable' to these Gaza Arabs. What they - Hamas gunmen and many Gaza civilians - have done to Israel on the 7th October 2023 evidences the reprobate mentality and demonic character of these aberrant creatures.

Geepers will these clowns (I.e. court jesters = entertainers) ever shut up or grow brains?

I think free wifi on the moon is likely more plausible and achievable (likely work better than free wifi on earth too)

Wow, what a letter. I’m out of here. This is the mob which has it all together. Just the group I’ve been look for.

Pigs arse.

There are times when I feel ashamed of those who revel in the freedom, hard won and fought for by those who love this country but who show no recognition for the sacrifices of others, so they can spout utter nonsensical rubbish.

To think that we fund these morons.

A letter to the Minister for the arts coming up and it won’t be polite unless I cool down.

Well said. Lest We Forget.

Yes, Lest We Forget, indeed.

But unfortunately, for woke morons like the SA Government and these so-called 'artists', it is 'Best We Forget'.

Stupid ignorant people! They only perform because they can't get a real job! Sorry, I wouldn't bother going to any of their performances. I had to go to one that my granddaughter was in a couple of months ago, it was the Qld Symphony Orchestra putting on a show and my granddaughter was playing flute. Before, it started, they had a "welcome to country" ceremony. There was not one aborigine in the audience or the orchestra. It was offensive to sit through that, but I stayed for her sake and that of my daughter who equally thought it ridiculous. So, now they can add their ignorant demonstartions to the pile of rubbish that is going on. BY the way my granddaughter played beautifully

I wanted to reply to you about a week ago but life got in the way! I used to go to many QSO concerts when I was a student, as I used to take advantage of the student rush tickets, which, back then, were only $10! Sadly, I haven't been able to get to a QSO concert in years!

I'm sorry to hear that they are now tampering with what used to be simply a perfectly lovely experience of listening to beautiful music performed by QSO. I'm sure it still is a lovely experience, except for this woke garbage, getting in the way, leaving that bad taste in your mouth!

And your granddaughter has to just sit patiently and calmly through that (probably cringing inside herself! I know I would be!) How about acknowledging the composers of the pieces being performed, since without them, we would not be able to enjoy all this beautiful music!

Great to hear that your granddaughter played well - if I were you, I would also be very proud of her. Does your granddaughter have a casual position with QSO, or does she play full-time with them?

Expand full comment

She was an invited guest when I went sometime around September I think. They open the QSO up for people in the public to play or something like that. I have been to soncerts where she has been the head violinist as well, but she prefers flute. My sister also plays flute but never had that type of training. My brother joined the army music apprentice school at 15 long time ago, he is 75 next week, and he played trombone in Westminster Abbey for the Queens 25th Anniversary, he had passed his teacher and was sent to England in the army at the time, when he got out of the army, he joined the Victorian Police and headed the band which he loved until he was asked by the Chief of Police there who was a Lesbian to take the band into a pride march in Melbourne. He refused and they perrsecuted him until he had to resign! Do you still play?

Expand full comment

It sounds like you have a very musical family! I'm sorry to hear about the appalling behaviour of the Victorian Police and the way they treated your brother. Honestly, none of this type of stuff surprises me anymore, especially coming from Victoria. So glad to hear that your brother had the courage to stand up to these clowns and refuse to take part in their vile conduct.

I have a few flute students I teach. So unfortunately nowadays, with three dependant children and working part time, I don't have time to keep up much playing at all, apart from what I need to do for teaching purposes.

So, the three-year-olds are chucking another tantrum, I see.

So, if you can't win an argument through real debate, or if you start to notice people are not listening, just scream the same mind-numbing, offensive garbage you have always been screaming, except just do it louder than you did before, by writing it in bold.

James, next time they will say the same thing, except that it will be written in bold and written in capital letters! How stunning. How woke.

They are not only bringing STC into disrespect but every taxpayer who contributes to the arts. Too many of these fools are getting away with too much & placing communities in danger. We have school holidays beginning, the arty farty kids will be encouraged to join this group. We could very well end up with violence on our streets through this irresponsible mob rule.
