CALIFORNIANS are being asked to vote next year on a law that would require hotels to open up vacant rooms to homeless people.
The proposal would require hotels to report the number of vacant rooms they have at 2pm every day to the city’s housing department.
The department would then make referrals and pay “fair market rate” for the rooms, using prepaid vouchers.
Understandably, hotel owners are unimpressed.
They argue that without on-site mental health experts and 24-hour security, it would be a disaster.
Others argue that the scheme incentivises homelessness. Why work if you can sleep for free in a hotel every night?
Perhaps the scheme doesn’t go far enough.
Grocery stores should report what stock they have left on shelves at 2pm every day and make it available to the homeless.
And car dealerships ought to submit an inventory of the vehicles left on their lot every afternoon. The surplus could then be made available to LA’s destitute.
And every employed person should be audited at the end of the week and made to hand over any savings to a homeless person.
One thing is for sure - if the free hotel room for a night idea becomes law, it had better include spa packages.
I know what you’re thinking. What about the poor paying guests who can’t sleep because there are 15 non-paying people in the next room having a meth rampage at 3am, blasting the TV and defecating everywhere?
But you only think like that because you’re selfish, unlike those generous-hearted humanitarians who came up with the idea to turn other people’s private businesses into NGOs.
Democrat-governed Los Angeles is one of the Wokiest cities in America. It would not surprise me if voters were stupid enough to vote “yes” to the proposal, only to complain about it later, before voting for it again.
Honestly, I think the idea has real merit. And i’m not just saying that.
The policy will cause international guests to avoid California like the monkey pox, and cause hotel occupancy rates to plummet.
The hotels will then be homeless shelters.
In America, everything blue turns to, you know, brown.
Not just California, James. It’s been done in NZ for 5 years. Two otherwise very affluent cities Hamilton and Rotorua have been rendered cess pits of social problems. Tourists don’t go there any more in great numbers and the few who do will never return. Melbourne and now LA off my list of places to go. Bloody hell there’ll be nowhere left soon
It is interesting what you are saying. There are some extremely strong Christians in California who are not woke, praying for that state - thye are very awake and aware. Also, lots are coming to the Lord, I saw where there was a water baptism of 5,000. Many have left and Texas is overflowing with Caliufornians. It is a very sad state when the rot is from the top down
