When did Australia become this intolerant, hateful, precious society in which everybody needs be pleased always by everyone?

What happened to live & let live?

We are a mix of cultures, a mix of religions, a mix of colours, a mix of sexual persuasions.

What’s happened to the respect we had for beliefs of the individual? Where has it gone?

I fear there are forces at play which are designed to break down the fabric of our society. These forces need be found, identified, addressed & eliminated.

The best satire I have read all day!....I would enjoy just reading James' prose if the subject matter wasn't so scary............. Just one look at the people in authority tells you all you want to know about our future. It looks like it has already been hijacked!

WooHoo🎉James good to see you facilitating Andrew Bolt tonight. Well done 😊

Agreed, he did a great job! Had to turn The Late Debate off as James wasn't on but Hildebrand was and afraid I can't watch him, Also had to turn I think Shari off as he was on there also! Hoping James will be back on The Late Debate tomorrow night, my very favourite programme. This article was a very sobering read.!

“…can live out his faith while being conscious of the impact his words can have on others.”

And yet that’s exactly what the Word of God will do, and is meant to do. Impact lives, convict us of our sin, and turn us to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. Of course it’s going to impact those who read or hear it.

As to Bishop Julian Porteous's problem with that rainbow flagger and Robin Banks: in my opinion a careful worded written and spoken all-out counter attack on these two would be the best defence. There would be a price to pay, but it may be well worth while for the sake of not only Tasmania, but all of Australia.

I agree! It’s time for decent normal people to stand up publicly to these ‘delicate’, ‘sensitive’ eejits and put them in their place. It’d be worth the probable cost. Their behaviour is beyond ridiculous and utterly pathetic. We’re all fed up with being expected to tippy toe around them. A good serve of cold hard reality and commonsense might knock a bit of character into them and if it doesn’t, and it probably wouldn’t, well, we’d get a kick out of it.

Human Rights Commissioner Edward Santow's word "discuss" is a euphemism. He meant, I'm sure, "instruct" or "direct" how Israel Folau can live out his faith.

And what does Robin Banks think of what the Koran has to say about marriage, sexuality and the role of women? Does it not offend her? No? Oh, that's right, I just remembered that this Anti-Discrimination Commissioner is only out to discriminate against Christians.

Evil bureaucrats like this woman are the gutter trash of society. They use tax-payer's money to attack and vilify innocent people, not for being unlawful, but for saying something they don't like. Such contemptuous behaviour is utterly disgusting. And worse still, is the fact that there is no accountability, no price to pay and no consequences for her actions. Catholic Archbishop Porteous, however, has to fork out thousands of dollars to prove his innocence and his lawful right to freedom of religion.

What Robin Banks has done to Catholic Archbishop Porteous is unlawful. She has harassed and abused him for simply practicing his lawful right to freedom of religion. It is she who should be taken to court for her abuse of him. This whole thing is appalling beyond words.

Amen James, can I say that without the ecommissar sanctioning me?

I suspect there's more chance of me seeing Issy Folau and Julian Porteus in heaven than there is of seeing the chick robbin banks or the former bankrupting CEO of Australian rugby.

If more Christians got up and spoke truth there would be so many voices that would drown out the poor offended ones. It is very bad to hold onto offence. I love the fact that there really is a Robin Banks! When we had our delivery business and our son worked for us many years ago when he was much younger and sillier, he would deliver to the banks and if no one would sign his delivery docket, he would sign it Robin Banks! Churches need to speak out instead of pretending all is well when we are in a desperately sick world and it is terminal. I am sure those who have ignored the gospel and left this earth are bitterly regreting their decision to reject Jesus. We need to be shouting from the rooftops that Israel Folau is right in what he says as is the Bishop in Tasmania

Oh James, like a bitter pill, this is too hard to swallow!

It's no use my complaining though, I'm sure to offend someone!

A great summing up of the right to free speech James. Probably the greatest hindrance to free speech is offence. This is an inverted form of pride. I’m right but I’m too insecure to allow a differing opinion! Our country needs to grow up and be humbled . 2 Chronicles 7:14 comes to mind if we are to be healed as a land.

Thank you for highlighting how we are moving into the real world of George Orwells fictional novel "1984". The Ministry of Truth in the novel determines what the truth is and invents a new language called Newspeak with which its impossible to communicate abstract thoughts. Free expression is a thought crime, and here we are in 2024 on the same road to cultural oblivion. Those who control our speech seek to control our thoughts and thus our lives. Like Communism, Nazism and radical Islamism, the "Human rights" advocates are wanting their cult to be the new "religion". Marginalising religions and religious leaders along with assigning pronouns and correct speak, vigorously pursuing people and organisations they consider to be dangerous through the legal system is the thin end of a very wide wedge.

These rainbow flaggers and these anti-discrimination commissions/courts/tribunals etc. seem to be hell-bent on turning every Australian citizen and permanent resident into another Winston, the wretched protagonist in George Orwell's book '1984'.

Expand full comment

I think they're using 1984 as their prototype for the new world. Once those of us who have read the book and Animal Farm are gone, there will be no one left who had read them or even heard of Ayn Rand so they will have a clear runway to introduce the new world order, just like Jim Chalmers has reinvented capitalism ,like he wrote himself

A never-ending push to remove freedom of speech and God ordained faith and family.

‘Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus is drafting new hate speech laws that will impose criminal penalties for serious instances of vilification based on a person’s race, sexuality, gender, disability or religion.’

We already have laws which were not enforced against disgraceful anti-Semitism.

WHY!!! So they can introduce more draconian measures that we all know will be used to silence and outlaw Biblical teaching. The Orwellian ‘ Ministry of Truth’ draws ever closer.

We must not let this happen. 🙏🏻

I wondered that. I thought we had hate speech laws. The trick that goes with these laws is the enforcing of them.

They are flexy laws.

'Diversity and inclusion'... just not diversity of thought or inclusion of dissenting opinions. Speaking honestly and freely comes at a cost. The cost of being challenged, feeling uncomfortable, and even having your feelings hurt. When you expect to walk through life without those challenges, and feel entitled to never having to confront ideas and values that you are opposed to, then you are the problem.

Isn't it ironic that we now live in a society where those who profess no faith or deny the existence of God altogether are deemed to be the ones most qualified to determine how those with a genuine faith in God are allowed to express that faith in their everyday lives. And then remind us once more just how diverse, inclusive and tolerant they all are. Funny how that works.

Expand full comment

What I find ironic is that if they don’t believe in God, why are they so threatened by someone they say doesn’t exist to the point where they have to wipe him out??? Weird. Of course we know why but it sums up the mentality of this ‘inclusive’ crowd.

Alex, I am one of those "who profess no faith or [and] deny the existence of God altogether." I am, however, a very determined proponent of freedom of thought, belief, and speech. I am appalled at how some people who claim to love freedom do not want to allow people their own individual freedom of thought, belief and speech. The hypocrisy is astounding. As I get older, I am becoming a stronger supporter of Christianity because most of the alternative belief systems (even atheism, it pains me to say) seem often to engender wilful blindness and arrogance which in turn leads to hostility and stupidity... and we have enough of those in our political class to last many lifetimes.

I fully endorse Alex's response to you Mike. Praying Luke 24:45 over you ..."Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures". (NIV)

Yes Sue, Judeo-Christianity is not just a belief system or a human-invented religious philosophy with certain moral principles. There are extradimensional forces - God, angelic entities, even Satan with his infernal minions - that control and operate the earth with all life on it with an iron fist along a predetermined course. There is a plan to everything that happens on the earth.

Thanks, Sue, I appreciate the sentiment. Cheers.

Mike, if you sincerely want to see what is behind the props on the world stage, ask the God of all creation. He might take you there - and if he does, you will be speechless at what you will be shown there. I know, because it happened to me years ago.

And that right there Mike is how one disagrees without finding the need to destroy those you don't see eye to eye with. Although, by the sounds of it, with age is also coming a sense of the spiritual nature of mankind and a desire to come to terms with the big questions. The questions that those who seek truth with a sincere and honest approach won't try to avoid; why are we here, what is the meaning of everything and where are we going? So while it is still legal for me to offer a biblical worldview to what is clearly a lost and dying world, I'd encourage you to read the New Testament gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to discover how Jesus answered those big questions and gave His life so we might be reunited with the One in whose image we have been created. As Jesus said, 'Ask and it will be given you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you'... I can but pray (even though the thought police would like to criminalise it) that your eyes and heart might be opened to the love that Jesus has for you.

Have a great day and thanks for reading and commenting.

I have read the Gospels, Alex. I went to a C of E high school and remain friends with one of the old reverends from the school. I have also read the Quran (which derivative at best, when it is not advocating violence against infidels) and the Book of Mormon (which is a comedy, not just on the stage). There are obviously many religions that I have not investigated but I think that I don't have the patience to do so now. So I am comfortable with my views for myself but I also fimly believe that others can believe what they wish as long as their beliefs do not incite them to commit violence against others.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

The disjoint is Mike that most of "the others" do not think like us. They want everyone to succumb.

Where was said ARHC during Covid when the greatest abuse of human rights occurred?

Instead of worrying about Christians expressing biblical views on marriage and sexuality it really is time the AHRC expressed some views on mandates, house arrest, rubber bullets, slamming heads onto roads and floors, running over mentally ill men, surveillance and closing playgrounds.

To not be able to be truthful about important issues is death to a culture. But it happens all time when we play along with calling trans people their preferred gender pronoun.
