I could go on and on. Our political and cultural elites certainly do. Their speeches are littered with meaningless, but high-minded phrases.
Speech writing for political and corporate leaders now requires little more than finding a few words with which to connect vacuous cliches together.
We are a culture enchanted by our own righteous rhetoric. Our words have taken on a hypnotic power. We chant them over and over as if doing so somehow makes them true and bends reality to their unreality.
So mesmerised are we by our pithy, pious slogans that we obsessively push self-destructive, degenerate and spiritual vapid ideas as if they were the peak of human enlightenment.
In 2000 years, the Apostle Paul’s words “professing to be wise they became fools” have never been more apt.
Spot on James. And yes Paul's words, which are actually God's words are totally apt.
High minded nascent slogans when delivered, often fall on the ears of hack bums on arranged seats. Pity that their brains aren’t as active as their ears.
