Coal is the Future
The wheels on Chris Bowen’s renewable energy billy cart are really starting to wobble
First we subsidied renewable energy to put coal fired power stations out of business.
Now we are subsidising coal fired power stations because renewable energy can’t keep the lights on.
If it wasn’t real, it would be a Benny Hill skit.
But it gets funnier.
Not only are we subsidising renewable projects as well as coal fired power stations, we are also subsidising householders’ energy bills by way of a $3.5 rebate.
Monty Python couldn’t have made this up.
The NSW energy situation would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn’t absolutely ridiculous.
The State Government announced today that it would cover 80 per cent of any losses - up to $225m a year - to keep the Eraring power station running two more years, with an option for two more years after that.
In other words, having planned to shut down the nation’s biggest coal fired power station, the government is now paying to keep it open at least until August 2027 and possibly until 2029.
Coal is the future, I tell you!
The move came after the Australian Energy Market Operator warned that the imminent closure of Eraring would result in blackouts across NSW.
The simple fact is that renewable projects, battery projects and transmission lines are not yet sufficient to power the state by wind and sun, the AEMO said.
So let’s recap …
We subsidised renewables when they were supposed to be cheap.
Then we subsidised households to be able to afford the supposedly cheap renewable power.
And now, we are subsidising coal fired power stations to stay open when the entire government policy has been geared toward shutting them down.
The wheels on Chris Bowen’s renewable energy billy cart are really starting to wobble.
Just when I think that there’s nothing left to shake my head at…this pops up.
I fail to understand how “supposedly intelligent “ people can not see the wood (twigs)for the trees “Forrest“.!!!
Thank you once again for your informative report James.
I love that we have idiots running this country both Federal & State. It, at least, makes us part of the western world and not feeling abandoned. Imagine if we had intelligent, godly people at our helm! How would we cope????
Nuclear, Coal & Gas. God given but as yet not altogether received.
