If we permit anti-Semites to chant “gas the Jews”, then hopefully they will be satisfied with simply chanting “gas the Jews” and won’t actually gas the Jews.
That’s the current thinking of Australia’s top security agency.
ASIO director-general Mike Burgess reportedly told a Labor MP that pro-Palestinian rallies proved a “valuable pressure release” given “the real risk of a domestic terror attack”.
If the comments are accurate, then our country is in bigger trouble than we ever imagined.
Bad behaviour is acceptable because, well, it could be worse.
Is that really the policy our law enforcement officials are advising our political class to follow?
And if that’s what they are going for, doesn’t it stand to reason then that even worse actions should be permitted in order to provide an even greater sense of cathartic relief?
How far down this rabbit hole is our national leadership prepared to go?
