Canadians have been warned they could be prosecuted for publishing videos of people stealing packages from their front doorsteps.
Police communications officer Benoit Richard warned that residents could be charged with defamation posting video of thieves caught in the act because there was a presumption of innocence.
Additionally, posting a video of a thief running off with your stuff was a violation of the thief’s privacy.
Yep. There was the thief, just minding his own business, stealing other people's stuff, when suddenly he was plastered all over the internet for the world to see.
How unfair!
