Westpac Becomes a 'Nature Positive Bank'
Once they finish saving trees might they consider opening some branches?
Executives at Westpac - who are apparently now experts on land management - have said they intend to become Australia’s first “nature-positive bank”.
Great. But personally, I’d settle for a bank with branches.
Anyway, this week they announced with great fanfare their new zero-deforestation policy which will prohibit cattle and sheep farmers from converting natural forest to agricultural land use from 2026.
I’ll wager that if a renewables company wanted billions for a solar farm or to install transmission lines, the money would be available regardless of how many acres needed to be cleared.
We’ll have all the renewable power we need to cook all the beef and lamb we don’t have.
