It’s beyond time this divisive practice was given the flick as it creates a chasm between us all at a time when we all should be trying to be cohesive as one nation without some being more equal than others.
As for the demonstrators being out of line, the simple solution is to start locking them up, charged with racial vilification and if not Australians, throw them out of the country, never to return.
Consideration might also have to be given to banning the wearing of the Palestinian head scarf before it becomes a symbol like the nazi swastika.
We don’t want this crap in our country.
If your allegiance is to another country, then go and live there.
I agree with Ms Bentley below. The whole business was ill-conceived and arrogantly imposed. I won't tolerate them. At one such nonsense put on by our local council I asked for equal time to acknowledge all the subsequent immigrants to this country and to honour the contribution they made. That caused some confusion. I am not a native born Australian, but I chose to become an Australian citizen and have a piece of paper to that effect. Moreover, I have medals to say that I voluntarily served this country in the military overseas. I am Australian. I am proud of it. Period. I require no half-arsed welcome to my own country. Amen.
