Uber Woke
IN a bid to ensure safety, Uber have announced a new feature that allows female drivers working late at night to preference female passengers.
That makes sense.
A female driver working late would feel much more confident knowing she will be dealing with other women rather than with men. And, presumably, it will be better for female passengers.
But wait. We are living in the progressive left’s Woketopia, right? So you just know there will be a catch. And of course, there is.
The feature is for drivers who “identify as women or non-binary”.
This leaves open the potential for a man who identifies as a woman, or as non-binary, to target female passengers.
At this point I need to note that there is no such thing as “non-binary”. They might as well say “drivers who identify as women or unicorns”. But I digress.
An Uber Australia spokeswoman said:
“By providing greater peace of mind with Women Rider Preference, we hope to support women and non-binary driver-partners in amplifying their current earning hours, while unlocking barriers preventing Australian women and non-binary individuals from accessing flexible earnings that support their ambitions.”
So an initiative designed to protect women drivers becomes an initiative that could potentially enable men to target women passengers.
And, all the while, progressives congratulate themselves for being enlightened.
Uber? Uber woke.
