The Madness of Ed Husic

In a dazzling display of mental gymnastics, Muslim MP Ed Husic said today that acquiescing to Hamas demands by recognising Palestinian statehood was not acquiescing to Hamas demands.

He told ABC radio this morning that since Hamas was founded on grievance, giving them exactly what they want would undercut their reason for existence.

“So I would actually say for people who want to see Hamas removed out of the equation, this is the way to go. Recognition is the way to go.”

Only a fool believes you get less terrorism by giving in to terrorism.

It’s like saying that if someone demands your wallet at knifepoint, handing it over actually defeats the mugger because - with your wallet snuggly in his pocket - he has no more reason to go on mugging.

Has Australia seen a stupider politician this century?

It got stupider.

Husic said Australians had been “triggered by horrific images we’ve seen out of Gaza”.

Yep. The New York Times photo of a boy suffering a degenerative disease but presented to readers as an example of starving and malnutrition was certainly triggering.

And then Ed rolled out this beauty …

“I think it’s also been the course of the Netanyahu government’s pursuit of Hamas and the way that they have been unable to distinguish between civilian and combatant that has had more and more people start to say this is not right.”

Sure Ed.

And why would the Netanyahu government have difficulty distinguishing between civilians and combatants?

Could it be because Hamas combatants only wear uniforms when staging elaborate pageants to hand over the corpses of Jewish hostages … but otherwise try to blend in with the population?

Could it be because Hamas combatants use civilians as human shields so that it is impossible for the Netanyahu government to work out who is who?

That Ed Husic sprouts such insanity says a great deal about him. That Ed Husic is allowed to sprout such insanity, unchallenged, says a great deal about the ABC.
