The BBC Nominates a Man as One of This Year's Most Inspiring Women
What happened to their 'Fact Checkers'?
The BBC has named a man as one of this year’s most inspiring women.
Was there anything more predictable?
When I heard the news I felt mostly relief - relief that the national broadcaster’s list of 100 inspiring women only contained one dude.
The nomination comes a week after the BBC named a man as Women’s Footballer of the Year.
And it follows just a few days after the New York Times casually used the term “non transgender women” to describe, well, women.
The BBC put Columbian scientist Brigitte Baptiste in their list of 100 inspiring women for his ability to see queerness everywhere.
I see queerness when I watch old music video clips of Boy George. But I think I’m supposed to.
Baptiste made a name for himself by using a “queer lense to analyse landscapes and species”.
Among other things, Baptiste discovered “transexual” palm trees.
You can see where this is going, can’t you?
