Gas is no longer plentiful! Also, the ABC think you’re an idiot.
Our national broadcaster reported yesterday that the Victorian Government will ban gas connections in all new homes from January 1, 2024.
Why? Because gas is rare and expensive.
"It's no longer plentiful, it's no longer cheap and it's also a fossil fuel." Why the Victorian government is pushing people to ditch gas.
Let’s think this through for a moment, shall we?
Gas is now sooooo expensive that the government has to ban it to stop people using it.
That’s what the ABC expects you to believe.
“The Victorian government wants to phase out gas because of the rising cost of gas bills …”
If gas is being phased out because it is too expensive, then perhaps the ABC should be phased out. One billion dollars a year to reprint government press releases seems … ‘unsustainable’.
The truth is that gas is plentiful.
Australian is one of the top exporters of gas in the world. The only reason we are not producing even more gas is that the Andrews government refuses permission to access it.
We have literally centuries of gas reserves available to us. This piece from The Australian tells the whole story.
Gas is also cheap.
The only reason we are paying so much for gas is because our governments are limiting supply.
To summarise, the Victorian government prevents extraction of gas in order to create a shortage. The shortage of gas inflates prices. The government then says that switching from gas to electricity will lower power prices.
And if you believe all of this, well then Dan Andrews has got a Commonwealth Games to sell you.
The situation the ABC describes is entirely artificial. The market has been completely manipulated by self interested parties, none of whom care about the suffering they are causing average Australians.
Australian gas is both plentiful and cheap in China. The Australian Financial Review reported on August 16, 2021 that Australian exports of gas to China had reached record levels, with China overtaking Japan as our biggest customer.
Oh, and gas seems plentiful and affordable in Dan Andrews’ kitchen. It’s good to be the king.
Dan and Albo don’t mind a gas BBQ either …
Oh, and the ABC warns in this subheading that gas is … CUE SCARY MUSIC … a fossil fuel!
It’s only a matter of time before the ABC run a story seriously suggesting we all go back to living foraging for good while living in caves. Paradise restored.
The ABC reported straight faced that …
Going all-electric will be no extra cost to the home buyer and should make energy bills about $1000 cheaper per year, and double that if there's solar installed, the government said.
Fantastic. I’ll add that $1000 a year gas bill saving to the $275 a year electricity bill saving Albo promised me.
They really do think we are stupid.
The ABC reported as fact …
“The replacement electric appliance may be more expensive to buy than its gas counterpart but long term energy bills will be significantly lower.”
Says who? Chris Bowen? Dan Andrews? Ita Buttrose?
Pushing everyone from gas to electric cooktops will increase demand for electricity, the majority of which is still produced by burning coal. And, of course, coal is worse for the environment than gas.
But my favourite part of the article is the quote from Adjunct Professor Bill Grace of the Australian Urban Design Research Centre at University of Western Australia who says …
"Resisting the change is no use.”
You don’t say.
The Victorian Government is literally banning gas connections in new homes. Resisting the change is not an option.
But I love the way the ABC and the government (but I repeat myself) pretend you have a choice.
News just in; The Victorian Premier & Energy Minister are considering an proposal from the ABC's Gardening Australia to bury 10,000 light bulbs to see if they can produce a power plant, stay tuned. What, it's no nuttier than their gas proposal.
These hypocrites are just tiresome and I continue to disbelieve everything they say on everything.
