Rooting Against Your Own Country
When political hatred becomes so consuming that national success feels like bad news, you've crossed a line from opposition into resentment
If you want to know what a bunch of vindictive, envious, sour-grape eating and frankly wicked people the Democrats are … then have a look at this headline from Politico at the weekend.
Honestly, I couldn’t believe this.
“Democrats grapple uncomfortably with World Cup success”
The football world cup has been one of the worst things to happen to the Democrats since people stopped watching CNN.
People from all over the world have visited the United States and loved it … overwhelmingly singing the country’s praises.
And that, apparently, is a disaster for Democrats who were secretly hoping the whole event would be one giant flop.
The Dems can’t have millions of people going back to their own countries full of praise for the U S of A.
Do you realise how much harder it is to now sell the lie that Trump is a fascist dictator destroying America?
Politico’s Adam Wren wrote …
“The triumph of the World Cup’s first two weeks - boosting the U.S.’s global reputation with sold-out stadiums and few logistical complications - has forced Democrats who had criticized President Donald Trump’s role in preparations to grudgingly reconsider.”
He quotes Democrat strategist Rob Flaherty saying …
“I think that there was a little bit of like liberal wishcasting that this would maybe be a disaster to sort of stick it to Trump. It hasn’t yet been.”
“Wishcasting.”
That’s a wonderfully polite way of saying … “we were rooting against our own country”.
Imagine hoping your nation’s biggest international showcase collapses … simply because the wrong bloke might receive some of the credit.
Then again, Democrats have never been especially comfortable around success.
They tax it.
They regulate it.
They apologise for it.
And when they can’t control it, they quietly hope it fails.
That’s the modern Left in a nutshell.
If the country wins under people they don’t like, then somehow the country must be losing.
It’s a remarkable political philosophy - one where hatred of a man is greater than love of nation.
I'll give credit to the US soccer federation for naming their team "United States men's national soccer team" (USMNT). Ours is called the "CommBank Socceroos". Australia's team is named after a bank and what sounds like the local under-fives squad. There's national pride for you.
Note: Australia is the only country to sell the naming rights to its national team - not mere sponsorship mind you - but the rights to the name. And, before you ask, yes, it's the "CommBank Matildas".
(Quietly getting off my soap box now and wondering which corporate logo will be the first to appear on the Australian flag. My guess is booze, or betting, or one of Bowen's green scams.)
I've been saying for some time (about 15 years ) that its only a matter of time till the US divides into two. Once you get each side of the political divide hating each other personally rather than just disagreeing on methodoly for progressing the country but respecting the other side, then its only a matter of time. 40 years ago President Reagan and Tip O'Neill Democratic Party speaker of the house would have ther most heated arguments over policy but after the days sitting would sit down and have a drink talk about football or whatever. Both sides cared about hte welfare of the country, Those days are gone and if yu read the commdents of the newly elected New York City council members sponsored by Mamdami you can't really be surprised. Now elected officials and people of note, celebrities and academics publicly procliam their hatred for their country.
