How New Zealanders cheered after voting a man their most beautiful woman
I knew the world was truly cooked back in 2020 when a transgender woman was crowned Miss New Zealand. And yet that wasn’t the only twist in the story.
The beauty pageant winner was also Filipino.
All of which meant that the Miss New Zealand winner was a foreign-born, biological male.
Could there have been a more fitting result in a post-truth world where nothing is ever as it seems?
The mandated response, as we all know, was to applaud and to tell each other how lucky we were to live in a world where people were so open-minded and accepting that literally anyone could be the most beautiful woman in the room, even a man.
But how are we to live with such absurdity?
