THE PAPACY:

A LONG HISTORY OF BLOOD SHED

The Atrocities Committed In Defense Of Unbiblical Traditions

Introduction

From the pages of Scripture to the annals of history, God repeatedly warns that religious power divorced from biblical truth becomes one of the most dangerous forces on earth.

Christ founded His church on humility, service, truth, and love (Matthew 20:25–28; John 18:36). Yet history records the rise of a religious system that departed from these principles, merging ecclesiastical authority with political power, enforcing doctrine by coercion, and shedding the blood of those who refused submission.

The Bible foretold this system. In Revelation 17, John is shown a woman, symbolizing a church, arrayed in PURPLE and SCARLET, adorned with GOLD, seated upon a beast, and holding a GOLDEN CUP, and described as “drunken with the blood of the saints” (Revelation 17:4–6). These identifying marks, royal colors, wealth, global influence, and blood guilt, fit only one religious power in history: the Papacy.

She reigns “over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:18), drawing strength from civil power while corrupting the purity of the gospel with man-made traditions.

This article presents a historical and chronological examination of the Papacy’s rise and actions, from its inception to the present, evaluated through Scripture and documented historical records, revealing a system that has repeatedly defended unbiblical traditions through persecution, suppression, and bloodshed.

FROM APOSTOLIC SIMPLICITY TO ECCLESIASTICAL POWER

The apostolic church knew nothing of popes, cardinals, indulgences, inquisitions, or enforced orthodoxy. Authority rested solely in Scripture (Acts 17:11). Leadership was servant-based, never coercive, nor marked by the grandeur of royalty (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1–3). Faith spread by preaching, persuasion, and personal conviction, not by prisons, swords, or fires.

Yet the apostle Paul warned that after his departure, a “falling away” would occur and eventually a “man of sin” would arise, exalting himself within the church (2 Thessalonians 2:3–4). This prophecy described apostasy from within Christianity, not persecution from outside.

As Christianity gained imperial favor in the 4th century, the church abandoned the cross for the crown. Bishops sought imperial backing. Doctrinal uniformity replaced biblical faithfulness. Pagan philosophy and worship practices were absorbed to maintain unity and control, fulfilling Paul’s warning against human tradition replacing divine truth (Colossians 2:8).

ALLIANCE WITH KINGS AND NATIONS

Ruling Through Political Power

The Papacy crowned emperors, dethroned kings, absolved rulers of oaths, and launched wars. Popes openly claimed authority over civil governments. Medieval Catholic canon law asserted that the pope could judge all men, but be judged by none.

Revelation 17:18 identifies this power unmistakably: “The woman which thou sawest is that GREAT CITY, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.”

Her greatness here mentioned is not size, but in influence.

From Charlemagne to the Holy Roman Empire, no ruler reigned securely without Papal approval. Monarchs who resisted Rome were excommunicated, their subjects released from loyalty, and their kingdoms plunged into chaos.

History records the humiliation King Henry IV endured at the command of Pope Gregory VII: In the severe cold of winter, with uncovered head and naked feet, and in a miserable dress, he awaited the pope’s permission to come into his presence. Not until he had continued three days fasting and making confession did the pontiff condescend to grant him pardon. Even then it was only upon condition that the emperor should await the sanction of the pope before resuming the insignia or exercising the power of royalty.

THE CRUSADES: BLOOD UNDER THE BANNER OF THE CROSS

Popes called for holy wars not only against Muslims, but against Christians who rejected Papal authority. The Albigensian Crusade (1209–1229) exterminated entire towns in southern France. When asked how to distinguish heretics from faithful Catholics, a Papal legate infamously replied: “Kill them all; God will know His own.”

Entire populations, men, women and children were slaughtered. Churches became mass graves. This was authorized bloodshed, blessed and financed by the Papacy.

THE INQUISITIONS: SYSTEMATIZED CRUELTY

From the 12th century onward, the Papacy created permanent judicial systems to identify, prosecute, and destroy doctrinal dissent.

Catholic Records Confirm:

- Secret trials with no defense counsel

- Anonymous accusers, often motivated by fear or greed

- Forced confessions, extracted under threat or torture

- Property confiscation, enriching church and state

- Executions, carried out by civil authorities at Papal demand

Inquisitorial manuals written by Catholic theologians, such as Directorium Inquisitorum and Practica Inquisitionis explicitly authorized torture, deception, prolonged imprisonment and psychological terror.

Victims were:

Stripped

Suspended by limbs

Crushed

Burned

Imprisoned for life in underground dungeons

Children testified against parents. Wives against husbands. Silence was treated as guilt. Those condemned were publicly burned alive in religious ceremonies meant to terrify observers into submission.

Revelation 17:6 is chillingly precise:

“I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints.”

Drunkenness implies excess, repetition, not isolated cruelty, but sustained, institutional violence.

SUPPRESSION OF THE BIBLE: FEAR OF TRUTH

The Papacy opposed the free circulation of Scripture. Catholic councils and decrees forbade laypeople from owning or reading the Bible without priestly approval.

Bible translators were treated as criminals:

- William Tyndale was strangled and burned for translating Scripture into English.

- His crime was not error, but obedience to Christ’s command to teach all nations.

Why such fear? Because Scripture exposes the Papacy’s erroneous traditions.

Jesus declared: “Thy word is truth” (John 17:17). A system built on tradition cannot survive widespread biblical literacy. Even today, during the Catholic Mass, the congregation is not encouraged to hold the Bible and read it for themselves. The majority only know what the Priest told them.

The system discourages the members from doing what God instructed us to do: “STUDY to shew THYSELF approved unto God...” 2 Timothy 2:15

Their own inquisitorial records reveals the Papal hatred for freedom of worship, freedom of conscience and teaching of Truth.

The records states:

- Manufactured evidence

- Retroactive condemnations

- Exhumation of bodies to symbolically execute the dead

- Public shaming of families

Guilt was assumed. Innocence was irrelevant. Submission was everything.

Christ warned: “The time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service” (John 16:2).

THE REFORMATION AND PAPAL RETALIATION

The Protestant Reformation exposed centuries of corruption, but Rome responded with:

- Censorship

- Political assassinations

- Religious wars

- Jesuit countermeasures

- Renewed inquisitions

Reformers were branded traitors. Nations were plunged into bloodshed. Millions died in Europe’s wars of religion.

Today, though methods have changed, claims of supremacy have not. The Papacy still asserts authority over conscience, elevates tradition above Scripture, and seeks global religious and political leadership.

Revelation portrays this power as enduring until the end times, admired by the world, yet condemned by Heaven. “The whole world wondered after the beast” Rev 13:3.

CONCLUSION:

God does not merely expose this Babylon, the Papal apostasy, He calls His people to leave it:

“Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins” (Revelation 18:4).

This is not an attack on sincere individuals within Catholicism, but a solemn warning against institutionalized error enforced by power and persecution.

History testifies that when the Papacy ruled unchecked, conscience bled. Scripture confirms that any system exalting tradition above God’s Word, will eventually fall under divine judgment.

Christ’s kingdom is not built by force, fear, or fire but by truth, love, and freedom.

And in the end, truth will stand, while this counterfeit system, no matter how ancient or powerful, will fall.

[Revelation 18:21]

[21] And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

[23] And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee... ...for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

The prophecy is written.

The history is recorded.

The choice now lies with every soul.

Come out and be saved,

Or remain and be lost.

Labor is blind sided by votes. That Saudi, the UAE, Egypt and Jordan, maybe among others, require registers of Imams and monitor their ideologies, should indicate that social cohesion, the latest Labor catch phrase, requires , as Scott Morrison suggests, some Islamic self regulation in our country. The sooner the better. The govt.looked into Christian behaviour during investigations into child sexual assault, during the Royal Commission, so no faith is above scrutiny.

If memory serves me correctly, a "New Australian," a certain Cumberland Councillor recently proposed that if Australians don't take care of how we treat other believers, we may have another Bondi on our hands!

So it's alright to say 'Allah Akbar' (god is great), and go round shooting, slashing and terrorising a populace knowing nothing will be done, but as soon as a Christian Preacher attempts to speak in the streets saying, "God Almighty loves sinners", he is moved on for disturbing the peace!

Yes James, we are indeed seeing the decline of Western Civilisation, 'The Latter Days' of Biblical Proportions, er..Prophesy! Either way, the imported 'refugees? of late, are pulling our Heritage down so quickly, burning our flag as they do it, and we are almost impotent in our retaliation.

Bob Johns's avatar

That bloke should be "brought in" to explain himself re more Bondi or be deported . As for the flag burning there was a move only a week or so ago to have this put into law and it was voted down by Labor. A name and shame list should be published to out these unspeakably un- patriotic creatures so that the mugs that put them in can just as easily boot them out

The Australian Imams Council….those imams are professional gaslighters!

Their perversion of reality is breathtaking!

An excellent but depressing article.

Morrison made absolute sense - yet true to form Conroy, as today's Labor 'attack dog' spoke shrill nonsense.

Bob Johns's avatar

Attack dog ? That pussy couldnt attack mickey mouse .

Llanipsa's avatar

He was only quoting the Party Line, after all!

Bob Johns's avatar

Yes and a parrot could do that ---with more conviction

Well said!

Quote of the Day, from a lot of gems to choose from, “In Australia we’ll happily ban plastic straws. But we don’t even want to talk about radical Islam.”

Thanks again James for the insightful analysis. Morrison seems to have laid a clever trap with his suggestions and the Imams and the ALP have blindly blundered right into it. The real question is how many will even notice?

David Hunt's avatar

Great analysis James. Maybe you could ask Pauline to read it in the Senate and someone else in the lower house.

Morrison was a failure as a Prime Minister but is doing a Stirling job as a Former Prime Minster. The Think Tank with which he is associated has certainly sharpened his public policy perspectives. Freed from the constraints of government and federal politics, most of his recent pronouncements have been most constructive. This one, in particular, is worth serious examination.

Bob Johns's avatar

It beggars belief that morons like Chalmers and Conroy can hold their jobs down with crackpot comments like that ,now all the Opposition have got to do is ---oh bugger we havent got one so we are screwed .

Bob White's avatar

Hear, hear Bobby! None whatsoever! More’s the shame of it all! 😩

Llanipsa's avatar

Not finished yet, mate! We still have a secret weapon in Pauline Hanson's One Nation! Maybe laughing at everything will cheer us up? Reminds me, I must get to see her latest Policy speech....oops I mean Cartoon!

Bob Johns's avatar

No you are spot on there as I was a candidate for One Nation both federal and state in 98/99 got 22% both times So it can be done unfortunately the bed wetters in the Libs and opportunists will now come out of the woodwork and the lefties will dredge every bit of dirt up that they can find I was endorsed for the 2001 Federal but after it was noted that I wasnt filthy rich I was dis endorsed in favour of a bloke was with very few ideas and they got 4% of the primary . I am now embarrassed to admit that I was so stupid to bother and besides look at the company you would have to keep in Canberra .

I do wonder James, if some of the problem with being able to clearly see that it is an Islamic driven belief system behind these issues, is lack of a spiritual belief system at all. To an atheist, one who does not have any belief in God or gods, maybe they cannot rationalise actions based on belief systems and try to explain behaviours through some other scientific, psychological means.

Llanipsa's avatar

Right Keith. Get out a copy of the Koran and study and compare it to the Christian Bible, or The Torah! Don't need to be told by anyone what these books say. Read it for themselves.

Shane Shmuel's avatar

Agree fully. Then why hadn’t the imams council spoken out against the hate speech of their clerics to protect the good ones? Wissam Hadad should be thrown out, tough luck if he’s an ‘Australian’. He can go hide behind trees in Damascus for all we care.

Llanipsa's avatar

Damascus is the right place Shane. Specially with the Prophesy that says it will one day be destroyed!

ALP have a series of magical strategies that enable them to maintain a spell on a large part of the population

Blame Morrison and Howard for all their failings

Blame the Liberal/Nationals for causing societal division. Radical Islam is a condition that has nothing to do with the religion

Only ALP /Teal policies can save the planet from climate destruction

Flash the Medicare card saying it will solve all problems and accuse the Coalition ( when it existed) of planning its demise

I don't suppose Albo, Conroy, or any others saying the alleged Bondi shooters followed an extreme perversion of Islam are able to enlighten us as to which parts of Islamic teaching the alleged Bondi shooters are supposed to have extremely perverted, are they? Do they think it's the teaching about love thy neighbour? Or the teaching about go and do likewise? Perhaps it's the teaching about the good Samaritan.

I think we all know the answer to the first question above.

Bob Johns's avatar

One of the few bible lessons that I remember from sunday school was the story of the Good Samaritan . It also beggars belief that a Samaritan doing a good deed for anyone was so unusual and noteworthy that it recieved an entire chapter in the Bible ---and we are importing them here in their thousands .

Jillian Stirling's avatar

Actually the Islam and its adherents are responsible for the actions of the gunmen. It is not a perversion of Islam. It is Islam. It is what the Koran teaches. If a Muslim says otherwise he is lying or hadn’t read the Koran. The hate laws permit complete teaching of Islam because the imams can quote the Koran freely and not be arrested. It does preach violence against Jews and infidels. Mohammed was a paedophile. He massacred Jewish and Christian populations. He perverted Christian and Jewish doctrine to his own ends. So Islam is not compatible with western civilisation.

Morrison as usual wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants to keep the level of Islamic immigration at the same level but wants the impossible. A kind of bastardised Islam that denies their writings. Adherents of Islam need to actually deny their beliefs and walk away from them for there to be change.

I think the imams have proved Conroy wrong and a few elements of Morrison’s speech correct. Not all of it. As usual he indulges in Liberal double speak that sounds like the thing we want to hear but doesn’t actually say much or help much. Just like Covid.

Sorry but Morrison cannot redeem himself with a trip to Israel. I am sorry but James Morrison didn’t speak the truth just a Liberal party version of it. Mostly the Liberals are too lazy to seek the truth and be plain speaking.
