GREENS Senator Lidia Thorpe is a poster child for why most people will vote “no” in a referendum about giving indigenous people a special “Voice” to Parliament.
Senator Thorpe told Network Ten’s The Project this week:
“The Australian flag does not represent me or my people. It represents the colonisation of these lands. And it has no permission to be here. There’s been no consent. That flag has connotations to invasion and dispossession.”
When it was pointed out that the Australian Parliament, in which she is a senator, could also be said to represent invasion and dispossession, Senator Thorpe replied:
“Absolutely. That’s why I’m there. I’m there to infiltrate.
“What we need to come to terms with as a nation is the question of sovereignty. We have never ceded our sovereignty as a First Nations people ever.”
It must be tricky to be a member of the Australian Senate while arguing that the Australian Senate is illegitimate.
Well, not if you cross your fingers when you take the oath of allegiance, it’s not!
Senator Thorpe admitted …
“Yes I swore allegiance to the colonising Queen but I had to do that to get in to the system and get this job. Right?”
Ah yes. The $200k a year job.
I would suggest Ms Thorpe has benefitted very nicely from colonisation!
Here’s the Senator fighting oppression from the QANTAS Chairman’s Lounge last year
When it was put to the QANTAS Chairman’s Lounge frequenting senator that Derryn Hinch had suggested dividing the country along racial lines might not be the smartest move, she replied:
“You are comparing a middle-aged white privileged guy to a grass roots black senator.”
Er, there’s that dividing the country along racial lines thing Derryn was warning about.
But hey …
“You gonna believe a middle-aged white colonised privileged guy who thinks he knows best? Or you gonna believe a black senator who left school at 14, survived family violence, survived public housing … I’ll live it up to your viewers to decide who has the authority to speak on that.”
Hmmm. I kind of like the sound of that middle-aged white colonised privilege guy.
Anyway, is Senator Thorpe the indigenous “Voice” to Parliament we are being told is necessary?
Incoming Northern Territory Country Liberal Party senator Jacinta Price, herself indigenous, said the Governor-General should investigate whether there were grounds to dismiss Senator Thorpe from parliament.
“I think she has nothing but contempt for the Australian people and she doesn’t respect the position she is in,” Ms Price said.
Slamming Senator Thorpe as “childish” Ms Price continued:
“I think she shouldn’t be completely honest about her experience that she is of mixed heritage, like myself as well, and that she’s simply only recognised that side of her.”
I like Ms Price. I think she will prove to be one of Australia’s best senators.
But whose is the indigenous “Voice” to Parliament? Is it Ms Thorpe? Or is it Ms Price?
Leftist heads will explode when they discover that different indigenous people can think differently.
This, after all, is one of the problems with the indigenous “Voice” to parliament. It assumes that all indigenous people think the same way because, you know, they’re black.
The “Voice” to parliament - which would give an indigenous committee special opportunity to advise the parliament on laws - is racist against white people since affords blacks a right no one else gets.
And it is racist against blacks since it assumes blacks all think with their pigmentation rather than with their brain.
But hey, what do I know? I’m just a middle-aged white colonised privileged guy.
Senator Thorpe "swore allegiance to coloniser Queen to infiltrate parliament"
Maybe the leaving school at 14 explains her ignorance. A pity that after several years on a handsome income she has not seen the need of investing in a decent education and expand her mind by learning something about world history. She should be glad it was the British and not the Japanese who first set foot on Australia, or there would not have been any aboriginals left...
Not coincidentally, we are having very similar issues in our own country. You know, melanin content trumping ability, merit or critical thinking. Kind of puts me in mind of the scripture, warning of a certain time in world history, where 'nation will rise against nation'... quite a different thing to 'kingdom rising against kingdom', which is also a thing.
