Human Rights for Everyone
… Except Teens, Women, and Anyone Who Remembers 2021
The problem with wearing clown shoes is that, if you’re not careful, you trip up on the laces.
Which reminds me.
Penny Wong.
On the very same day the Albanese Government proudly rolled out its plan to keep teenagers off social media - because nothing says “freedom” like a mandated digital time-out - our Foreign Minister popped up on Twitter/X to announce …
“Today is Human Rights Day. Today we reaffirm that human rights belong to everyone, everywhere, every day.”
Sorry … what?
“Human rights belong to everyone” is the sort of thing politicians say because it sounds noble, costs nothing, and fits neatly on a tea towel.
It’s a moral selfie.
But when your own government is simultaneously debuting a policy that restricts an entire generation’s participation in the public square, the slogan starts to sound less like a conviction and more like a Hallmark card drafted by the Ministry of Irony.
You don’t get to drape yourself in the language of rights while quietly chiselling away at them from the back office.
And the irony only gets richer.
How can Penny Wong - a lesbian - wax lyrical about human rights when, under her government, lesbians can’t legally hold women-only gatherings without men who identify as women turning up with the full backing of anti-discrimination law.
Human rights for everyone, apparently, except women wanting a weekend without blokes claiming to be women.
And let’s not forget: Penny Wong and her colleagues fell strangely silent during the pandemic years, when “human rights” were deemed non-essential - right up there with funerals, livelihoods, and visiting your dying mother.
Remember the “take this experimental vaccine or lose your job, your income, and your place in polite society” phase?
Human rights must have been on annual leave from 2020 to 2022.
But sure, Senator Wong. Tell us more about everyone’s rights, everywhere, every day.
Just don’t forget to tie the laces on those clown shoes before your next tweet.

😂 anybody still believing we have rights post 2021 after most rolled over and allowed the govt to trample their said rights is a fool. Unless people start standing up for these rights they claim to have these clowns will continue to keep us in this illusion of having rights that only the minority morons protest about needing more rights. This world is nuts!
Well said James. While we're at it, let's not forget her statement most certainly does NOT include the tens of thousands of unborn children ruthlessly mutilated in the womb each year in Australia because, 'my body my choice'... except of course the baby is excluded from that little ode to human rights. Come to think of it, so is the father.
