Cyclone Alfred hasn’t even made landfall but Greens leader Adam Bandt is already proclaiming the category two storm a “disaster”.
The chief climate botherer tweeted yesterday …
“With Tropical Cyclone Alfred forecast to hit Queensland and New South Wales this week, my thoughts are with those preparing for its impact. These climate disasters are always devastating.”
Anyone would think we were on the verge of Armageddon.
It’ll be windy and wet.
There may be some flash flooding.
And it’s possible some tree branches will fall down.
Having lived in North Queensland where cyclones hit every year, and having lived through category four cyclone Yasi, I can assure you a category two cyclone is nothing to wet the bed over.
But Bandt, a professional bed wetter, continued …
“To prevent these disasters getting worse, we need to take strong climate action. That means no new coal and gas.”
Look, I’m going to put my hand up for this one.
I’ve been flying to Brisbane on a regular basis this year, and I haven’t even paid Virgin once to offset by carbon emissions.
Cyclone Alfred is all on me. My bad.
Wait, was it a climate disaster when a cyclone last hit Brisbane? Fifty years ago?
Imagine when Bandt finds out that research published in Nature magazine found that cyclones have decreased globally by 23 percent since 1950.
The decline in the number of cyclones has been even sharper in Australia - falling 30 percent between 1970 and 2000.
Even the Climate Council notes …
“The number of tropical cyclones will likely decrease in the future.”
It’s just a pity that the Greens have continually stymied attempts at building a new dam in Queensland. The category two system could have been of some benefit.
Bandt claims …
"My thoughts are with those preparing for its impact."
Hardly. His thoughts are focused only on opportunistically using this natural weather event to further his chances at holding the balance of power after the upcoming federal election so that he can further stuff up the country.
If there’s any consolation however it is that the Greens thoughts are with Queenslanders rather than Hamas. That’s something, I suppose.
The Greens are a blight on Australia. Bandt doesn’t give two figs about any of us. If he and his garden dwellers did they’d be doing something about the damage they have caused.
Bandt & his Greens are pathetic. I hope they get voted out next election.
