Female. Tick. Black. Tick. Lesbian. Tick.
THE Whitehouse has finally appointed a black and openly LGBTQ+ woman as press secretary.
Outgoing press secretary Jen Psaki was a woman but, sadly, neither black nor attracted to members of the same sex. With those limitations, it’s a wonder she was able to do the job.
Thankfully, the gaps in Psaki’s identity resume have been more than filled by her replacement, Karine Jean-Pierre.
Ms Jean-Pierre ticks almost all the wokey boxes demanded by the Biden administration, although, sadly, she is not trans.
The black female lesbian’s appointment is in line with President Biden’s pledged to select officials, cabinet members and judges who reflect the diversity of America.
The press secretary role is the highest-profile public-facing staff job in the White House, and is crucial to the US government's communications strategy.
Ms Psaki said her replacement was a history-making appointment.
"Representation matters and she is going to give a voice to so many and show so many what is truly possible when you work hard and dream big," she said, exciting hard working black female lesbians with big dreams all over the world.
In all the excitement Ms Psaki forgot to say that it was still possible Ms Jean-Pierre could identify as a man and become the first black transgendered male lesbian to ever stand behind the Whitehouse podium.
Ms Jean-Pierre told ABC news: "This is a historic moment and it's not lost on me.”
Dee Dee Meyers was the first female Whitehouse press secretary, appointed by the Clinton administration in 1993. America has had to wait almost 30 years for a female attracted to other females to finally fill the role.
The Biden administration has not said whether this was a deliberate oversight or if it simply took that long to sort through the pile of black lesbian CVs.
Ms Jean-Pierre, acknowledging that she was the right colour and the right fit for the current cultural obsessions, said “It’s a very emotional day.”
Indeed.
Astute political commentators noted that a similar identity criteria had worked very well when selecting the current US Vice President.
In terms of actual experience, Ms Jean-Pierre has been a black woman for 44 years and a lesbian for slightly less time than that.
As well, she has worked as Joe Biden’s principal deputy press secretary for 17 months, and, prior to that, for a left-wing lobby group.
As such, the administration’s pick seems to tick every box, except for the who even cares box.
