But What About the Intersex People?

The census debate rages on, as I predicted it would

Two weeks ago I told you that I looked forward to the government including LGBTQIA+ questions in the census because of the hilarity that will ensure.

LGBTIQ+ organisation praises government's Census backflip but criticises intersex exclusion

You have to laugh! It’s all so predictable.

The Government promised before the election that they would include LGBTQIA+ questions in the Census.

Then, once elected, the PM said he would not be including any such questions as he didn’t want to create division.

Well the outrage was immediate and he quickly changed his mind, saying one question on sexual preferences would be included.

Again, the outrage was immediate, and so now the Government has announced there will be a question on sexual preferences and gender identity.

But it’s never enough, is it.

Cue more outrage …

CEO of the advocacy group Equality Australia Anna Brown slammed the government for deciding not to include a question on “intersex” people.

SBS News reported …

She said the exclusion of questions related to intersex people in the Census was an "incredibly disappointing decision for people born with variations of sex characteristics".

And why is there no opportunity for left-handed people to be identified in the 2026 Census? Why is the government intent on erasing them?

Meanwhile, Senator Lidia Thorpe went full Lidia.

She said the decision not to give intersex people a chance to put up their hand (either left or right) was “utterly shameful” and leave them “uncounted”.

But let’s imagine the government had included a question enabling intersex Australians to be their own category. Do you think that would have satisfied the diversity and inclusion fanatics?

Or do you think they would have slammed the government for failing to give a place in the census to two-spirited people?

And what about Androgyne folk who identify as both male AND female all at the same time? Why are they suddenly indivisible?

I jest, of course. But only a bit.

My point is that once you decide that gender is fluid and that anyone can be anything, what’s the point of asking the question?

The census is held every four years but you can change gender on your birth certificate every 12 months in some states.

My the time the 2030 Census comes around, I could have been a male, a trans woman, two-spirited and omnigender.

Put that in your census and smoke it!

But there’s a bigger problem. By putting feelings in the census we are now elevating feelings to the status of real world data that must be acknowledged and factored into government policy.

Say what you like about transgenderism, running a census like this is a kind of madness.
