Buses Advertising Atheism Score an Own Goal
'God doesn't exist so let's campaign against Him!' Wait. What?
A GROUP of atheists in the UK bandied together a few years ago to run anti-God advertisements on the side of public buses.
I have to admit, campaigns advertising atheism always amuse me.
“God doesn’t exist! Let’s campaign against someone we don’t beieve exists!” hardy makes sense.
But each to their own.
Far from being outraged, I liked the anti-God advertisements.
At least they got people to look up from TikTok and think, even momentarily, about existential issues.
But more than that, the very nature of the advertisements signalled atheism's weaknesses to thinking people.
For instance, one of the advertisements said …
"There's probably no God, so stop worrying and enjoying your life."
Hilariously, the word "probably" had to be used in order to meet advertising standards since it was impossible for those behind the campaign to prove that God did not exist.
