Energy Minister Chris Bowen blamed a “severe heatwave” for almost crippling the NSW energy grid on Wednesday.
Seriously? The state experienced temperatures of between 28 (in Port Macquarie) and 32 degrees (in the city centre).
Sure, it was 39 in Penrith, but if you live in Penrith you deserve it.
But come on, 30 degrees is not a severe heatwave.
It’s what we used to call summer.
Is Chris Bowen saying we can’t cope with summer now?
Then the Energy Minister blamed coal-fired power stations for our failing energy grid. The were unreliable, he said.
So help me understand …
On the one hand, Chris Bowen blames coal for causing climate change. And on the other hand, Chris Bowen blames the unreliability of coal-fired power stations for our lack of electricity.
Coal is destroying the world. If only we had more coal.
You can’t have it both ways Minister Bowen.
As for the unreliability of coal-fired power stations, they are only being under-maintained because the government has disincentivised maintenance.
Chris Bowen says we are phasing out coal power and then expresses surprise that coal-fired power stations aren’t being maintained.
Huh?
NSW Premier Chris Minns told citizens we should not use power between 3pm and 8pm so that the grid wouldn’t collapse.
I love it. We are told not to use electricity so that we won't run out of electricity.
Is that a politicians way of ensuring that if we did run out of electricity, no-one would ever know?
He told people …
“Solar production in the energy market starts to come off at 3pm, exactly when people start to return home.”
So, what you’re saying is that solar power is generated precisely when we don’t need it. And that’s the future.
Why do I feel like I’m living in a Twilight Zone?
NSW Energy Minister Penny Sharpe lauded actions taken to avert blackouts including “households, businesses and NSW government employees who have taken steps to reduce the demand on the system this evening”.
The NSW Energy Minister needs to understand that having people not use energy is not a success. She’s meant to be supplying it in abundance, not rationing it.
In 2020 our politicians locked us in our homes.
In 2024 our politicians turn off all the power.
We are governed by morons.
The lights went out for Chris Bowen a long time ago.
Actually If I had Known I would have turned on more stuff. I’m all for blackouts as how will people join the dots unless they have to face consequences for votes these morons in. Are we surprised?
