Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has claimed the referendum defeat was not a loss for him.

Next he will be saying ‘What referendum?’

The PM, who spent most of his first 18 months in office campaigning for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, became animated when someone described it as a big defeat for him.

“Oh, no, no, no, no, very important to call that out,” he said.

“I am not Indigenous so it wasn’t a loss to me.”

Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine are indigenous. And it wasn’t a loss for them either. But I digress.

Albanese would have us believe that he merely put the proposal to the Australian public but that he was not personally involved.

But is that true?
