Albanese Ditches Religious Discrimination Bill to Preserve Social Cohesion
What does it say that the PM believes the best way to preserve social cohesion is to leave Christians without protection in law?!
Anthony Albanese has thrown Christians to the lions, today abandoning his election promise to enact religious discrimination laws.
Laws to protect the rights of Christians - particularly pertaining to free speech and the freedom of association - were promised by Malcolm Turnbull as a sop for supporting same sex marriage back in 2017.
Essentially, Turnbull promised to ensure that Christians were still free to preach a biblical view of sex, gender and marriage after gay marriage became the law of the land.
Well, rainbows and sparkles were enshrined into law almost seven years ago and, despite promises from Scott Morrison and from Anthony Albanese, Christians still have zero protection in law.
Now, Prime Minister Albanese has said he is giving up on discrimination laws to protect Christians because he was worried the debate might damage social cohesion.
Dear Leader said …
“One of the things I’ve spoken about is the need for greater social cohesion. And the last thing that Australia needs is any divisive debate relating to religion and people’s faith.”
Too right. We don’t want to jeopardise social cohesion!
(I’m now typing this from the floor where I am rolling around in fits of laughter)
Just as well we didn’t have a race-based referendum!
