The Australian Christian Lobby has been identified as a far-right hate group.
Well of course! If you haven’t yet worked out that holding to objective truth makes you a bigot and a hater, you haven’t been paying attention.
The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE) is an international group which seeks to identify and chronicle transnational hate groups.
On Wednesday, the group published the report “Far-right Hate and Extremist Groups“, which includes research on the major groups operating in Australia, their history and beliefs.
It lists the ACL alongside Neo-Nazi and fascist groups.
The report’s authors cite the the ACL’s opposition to same-sex marriage, LGBTIQA+ surrogacy and adoption rights, and its increasing attacks on the trans community as reasons for its listing as a hate group.
In other words, if you don’t agree with our new sexual mores you are a hater who must be silenced.
Romans 1 talks about people who love evil and so suppress the truth. The way to suppress truth is to silence the truth tellers and in 2022, that means deriding them as bigots and haters who must be banished from the public square.
This is exactly what Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews, cheered on by the Herald-Sun newspaper and The Age, did to Anglican churchman Andrew Thorburn during the week.
Thorburn’s crime was to attend a church that preached a Christian view of human sexuality and life.
For that he was labelled a bigot and a hater. It took the mob just 24 hours to force him out of his $850,000 a year job.
Get used to this. It will happen more, not less. The rabid mob is now being led by politicians and mainstream media no less.
Jesus told his followers …
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own.
“As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
ACL spokeswoman Wendy Francis said in response to GPAHE listing them as a hate group …
“The Christian faith, to which the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) is committed to, has, as one of its main tenets, the understanding that human beings are made in the image of God. This affords every person respect.
“We are called to love others and to serve. Having different opinions on gender, sexuality or life, is not an evidence of hatred or bigotry. ACL works with people from different backgrounds and who have differing opinions. A truly liberal democracy must allow competing worldviews to co-exist.
“If we label people we disagree with on religious, moral or ethical matters as hateful or intolerant, the world will become a small, sad and dangerous place. ACL remains committed to listening to, and respecting, every Australian, including those we may disagree with.”
Well said Wendy. Fair minded people will agree.
But as that great observer of human civilisation Taylor Swift once said, haters gonna hate.
Well said!
I fully support ACL's stance and the upholding/expression of REAL Christian values. Our society is rapidly losing any sense of a moral compass, which means if you adhere to one that is not by definition "popular" your lot will be having to deal with mounting persecution.
What was extremely disappointing was the opinions [if you could decipher them], expressed by the champions of our Christian faith, the Anglican and Catholic archbishops of Melbourne. Mr Thorburns
position was clear and unequivacle. Where was the conservative/christian support for his moral stance? The Archbishops' conciliatory, wishy-washy responses reminded me of Chamberlins "Peace in our time" speech. Not very effective in stemming Nazi ambitions!
