The ABC Get to the Real Problem with War

... and you already know what they're going to say

You can always trust the ABC never to let real politic stand in the way of progressive ideology.

And so when Radio National Drive host Andy Park was talking Monday about the wars in Ukraine and Israel he couldn’t help himself but say …

“I don’t mean to downgrade the loss of life and the displacement of millions, but a longer term life or death issue here is hidden - unreported carbon emissions generated by conflict!”

Ah yes, the real tragedy of war is an increase in carbon emissions. And don’t let people grieving the loss of loved ones or homelands tell you otherwise.

Whenever someone begins a sentence with “I don’t mean to downgrade the loss of life and displacement of millions BUT …”

… well, you know you’re listening to the ABC. Or the Greens. But I repeat myself.

The real issue is not obtaining justice for children killed, or hostages taken, or old ladies slaughtered. No, the real issue is how many emissions we let loose in the process of righting those wrongs.

Park’s ABC radio program went on to reveal that the first 12 months of war in Ukraine had produced 119 million tonnes of greenhouse gases.

Listeners were told that was the equivalent of a year’s worth of Belgium emissions.

Thank God! I was worried it would be the equivalent of a week’s worth of Beijing emissions!

I fully expect sometime next month the Greens will propose that nations must buy carbon credits to offset their wars.

And if you can’t afford electric tanks or solar jets, then you won’t be allowed to defend yourself. China, of course, will receive a special exemption because they are a “developing” military.

The ABC will, of course, report all of this with a straight face.
